WLTW HD2 should stick to One Format

Clear Channel still offers one of its 750+ stations each day on WLTW-HD2. I don't see what this accomplishes since they can not build an audience for this frequency when there is literally a format of the day. As one of the few owners of an HD radio, I feel it is time they should have a single format at 106.7 HD2. Many of the 750+ stations offered by CC either duplicate or are very similar to stations on the FM analog dial.

I think that the HD2 and HD3 stations should offer unique formats to a market. I can understand if the powers that be at CC feel that country music and not apropriate for 106.7 HD2, but I really think its time to end this rotating station business.

"If you don't like it, change the station - better yet, give us 24 hours, and we'll change it for you! The new 106.7 HD-2!"

I agree with the original poster that WLTW HD2 should not continue broadcasting a different format each day. There are few enough listeners to HD radio to begin with, and this is like a stunt between format changes that simply chases away previous listeners.
But I l believe that Clear Channel still hopes to get this side channel on a midtown translator, and as a result may not want to commit to any one format. Of course with the interference issues that have resulted from the translator's brief time on the air in May, it will probably take quite a while for it to get back on the air, if it ever does. I think in the interim they should revert to the broadcast of Country Road they had aired for several years. It was done quite well, and is the only country station that could be heard clearly within most of New York City.

WLTW-HD-2

Since so few can hear the HD-2 over the air, maybe they're using it as a marketing tool for iHeart. It's likely that the majority of HD radio owners have some industry ties.

On LTW's webpage, the only reference to the HD-2 I could find is all the way at the bottom of the page. It links to a page with an iHeart directory and features NY Country as the HD-2 format (and country is what plays via the player). But the HD radio guide for NYC on the same page shows WLTW-HD-2 as having "Various iHeartRadio until May 12."

Um, hello, what about Thunder Country? Isn't that why they wanted the translator shut down in the first place?

I own an HD radio and have absolutely no stake in the radio business. I am certain that many owners of HD radio who post to Radio-info and other message boards are likely radio enthusiasts. Back in 2006 I bought an HD radio to get 101.1 HD2 since WCBS-FM was hijacked. I also liked to listen to smooth jazz and country which left WQCD and WYNY.

Thunder isn't a NYC station. I have no idea where you live but you seem to be under the impression that WKMK comes in clearly in NYC. You can certainly get it in south Brooklyn and Staten Island but for the rest of the city you cannot count on a reliable signal.
You've also got WFAS 106.3 to contend with in many areas, not to mention the pirates.

The main reason they shut down the translator was because it was strong enough to interfere with WKMK reception in NJ (WKMK's home market). I was never under the impression that people from NYC were calling in to complain, but that could possibly be the case too.
