WLTW: Too Many Risks?

106.7 Lite FM WLTW has been taking a lot of risks lately. They are sounding a lot like a hot ac station and now there is the "Saturday Night Dance Party". I know there are AC's that have a dance show, but we already have Mix and KTU. If WLTW continues to take more risks, it may cost them. Why are they messing with a good thing? I mean, it is interesting to see a station taking risks, but why try to fix something thats not broken? Opinions? <P ID="signature">______________

They've definitely opened the door for someone to come in and compete with them with a "lighter" sound...ala Sunny 104.5 in Philly. Many of WLTW's current spins are anything but "Lite"

$$$$$$$$$$$ Because I am not a regular listener (A friend is) I can only guess.
#1-Weekends bring in poor revenue. Advertisers want weekly drive time and will pay big for it, giving a time to break format. #2-WLTW gets good ratings, with that comes more freedom to experiment. #3- The talent may be bored with the Lite format. #4- A station in New Jersey 107.1 (The Breese) is playing a Lite AC mixed with oldies and may be hurting WLTW in that part of New Jersey. Just my speculation here

Jim Ryan knows what he's doing (IMHO)...It seems he has the wiggle room to stretch out a bit with 'LTW.
By the way, Sunny in Philly isn't that "lite" anymore either.
 
I don't know how long WLTW-106.7 has had it's "Saturday Night Dance Party", but if I were programming the station, and the show wasn't going to start-up until after WCBS-101.1 flipped to "Jack", I might have scrapped it and instead launched a Saturday-night oldies show.

I believe the show started before the CBS FM flip. It would be a better idea to have a Saturday Night Oldies show because Mix and KTU have dance already.<P ID="signature">______________

Took the words right out of my keyboard... Jim can make as much moves as he wants with Lite - altogether now - because he can. As long as there is no competitor, Jim can "modernize" the sound of Lite as he goes. Don't think that a top-rated and top-billing station in New York operates on autopilot.<P ID="signature">______________

I believe 106.7 Lite FM is playing a lot of "non-lite" songs. The office I work in has Lite FM on all day and there are some songs that I am surprised to hear on the station. <P ID="signature">______________

Which makes it all the more amazing that no one tries to come in for a challenge...who wouldn't want a piece of this pie???

The "Saturday Night Dance Party" *IS* an oldies show.

But the oldies aren't as old.... ;-)
