WLTW TURNING 25 THIS MONTH

It was around this time in 1984 a Country station (KICK 106.7) WKHK faded away into Lite-FM 106.7 WLTW a new station was born.

WKHK just couldn't compete against a well established Country station then WHN 1050AM. So Viacom which owned KICK 106.7 launced Lite-FM. WLTW was described as an MOR station whose playlists core artists were, Neil Diamond, Barry Manilow, Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, The Carpenters and Dionne Warwick.

When I first heard Lite-FM I thought I was listening to the WNEW-AM of the 1970s.

As time moved on into the late 80's and early 90's to today , Lite-FM became more of a mainstream AC station and not only was Sinatra and Johnny Mathis gone but aslo were the Carpenters and Neil Diamond.

Today WLTW continues to be one of the top rated and top billing stations in New York.

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

And they still refuse to play jingles (except during Christmas), even though they have had a few packages recorded for them over the years. AFAIK, they are the only "lite" station in the country that never played jingles.

I was on jury duty at the time---boy, was I upset. From then on, I taped kiss-fm Miami when in miami beach for passover---just to have country in stereo!!!!!!When we had two country stations,I took them for granted.Today, I would even accapt a country AMer.

Another change in presentation is the fact that some of the jocks are "talking up" some songs, as opposed to starting cold out of intros.

Oh, and don't forget a semi-regular spin of "More Than A Feeling"!

LTW is losing it's edge. A sign of a struggling station are too many changes in a short period of time. New morning show, not renewing V. Smaldone's contract, spiking new tunes, etc. Yet they will continue to be successful.
