WLUM

For your listening enjoyment, I uploaded MP3 copies of 2 WLUM-102.1 Milwaukee airchecks of interest. These MP3s were made a few months back for someone who asked for them in MP3 format and I forgot to remove them from the hard drive.

Here is the overview.

WLUM-102.1 Milwaukee which was an alternative leaning rocker as "Rock 102-1" was rumored to possibly flip April 1st. At 12AM after Loveline they aired Sweet - Little Willy and Marvelettes - Don't Mess With Bill. The station's owner is former Green Bay Packer Willie Davis which is probably where they got that from. Throughout the overnight they had liners saying "We don't know Jack" and "Stay Tuned For The Return Of Dick & Ellen" At the top of every hour they played a song with the "Change" theame such as "A Change Would Do You Good" and "Changes" and "Roll With The Changes"

Then at 7AM, Dick & Ellen come on the air instead of the normal Bob & Tom Show. Dick & Ellen were the morning hosts on Clear Channel's WLTQ-97.3 (AC) since the 80s. They were a husband and wife team. In 2003 Dick was fired and Ellen was fired when the station changed to 80s based Classic Rock as "97.3 The Brew" in September. Ellen wound up getting a job at WLUM's sister station WJZI "Smooth Jazz 93.3" which is probably how they got them to do the stunt morning show. The Dick & Ellen show on WLUM was very interesting. They talked about their past radio carrers and other stations plus they confused the crap out of the listeners. Just before 10AM at around 9:57, Dick & Ellen ended the station re launched as "102-1 Milwaukee's Alternative Station" with a more true (not hard) alternative with tracks from the 80s-Current. None of the hard stuff like Slipknot etc. They ran jockless the full first day and the airstaff returned at 12AM the next morning.

Very interesting stuff.
