WLUP New Play List

Do you know why? I was listening about 10 last night and it was the same. I like the way the loop
sounded. They sound like wdrv now. Why do all the stations insist on sounding the same. I'd rather
hear some newer rock music, I like 95.1 they should have went that way.

Simple. The Drive has been kicking The Loop's ass in both ratings and revenue. Even Jack-FM has been nipping at The Loop, I suspect.

Nearly all of the current & recurrent rock artists WIIL plays can already be heard on Q101, which is basically 70% Active Rock these days. The main difference is in the gold categories. WIIL still plays some 70's & 80's heritage rock (although not a ton), and avoids most of the edgy alt rock Q101 still plays.

The tweaked sound will make WLUP sound less like a station for factory rats and will make it more accessible to a wider audience. Time will tell if the strategy works or not. Quite honestly, I think WLUP has sounded pretty bad ever since Emmis acquired it.

The Loop's new approach sounds very similar to what Jack was doing until recently, when it re-broadened its list a bit.

Oh Perfect!

Now Chicago can get thru another brutal Winter listening to washed out, retread songs we've all heard 1000's of times...Most of which we wouldn't care if we ever heard again!

For the most part, terrestrial Radio has become nauseatingly boring and predictable!

And you wonder why radio ad revenue is in the toilet. I agree, the same tired, boring 200 classic rock songs. Just great........

This is the problem with commercial broadcasting as we have it here in the USA. Since everything is based on maximizing revenue, it is programmed to the lowest common denominator. You get better programming when you are willing to pay; either over the Internet, via satellite, or to a subscription service like many of the NPR stations (or on your own iPod).

Personally, I'd gladly pay rather than settle for mediocrity, but I don't think I'm in the majority there...

Not sure this was a good move. Judging from the reactions of long time (Some said 35+ years!) listeners on the Loops Facebook page, none are too happy about the format tweak. They basically say they want more harder edged rock and not a station that basically tries to copy The Drive at the next dial position. I think they might have shot themselves in the foot here, they are abandoning their P1's. Not sure if this was a good idea..leave the classic rock/AOR to The Drive who does it better!!
