WLVI SALE, WHEN DOES ANSIN TAKE OVER?

There have been no changes to the tribune run WLVI.com. When does Ansin begin running things? Are there a new set of calls on the way?

If there's an LMA in place, immediately asusming a contract for such has been signed.

If not, he can't take over till the FCC approves the transfer which could be 60 to 90 days or more...

Why would Ansin change the call-letters? He already has WSVN/Miami, which stands for "SeVeN". WLVI stands for fifty-six in Roman Numerals. Even though the WLVI call-letters have been somewhat put on the back-burner in favor of "Boston's CW", don't be surprised if he dumps the CW after next year and puts the WLVI call-letters "front and center" to denote the station's new on-air identity. I have noticed that the WLVI website, especially in the news department has not been updated since September 9th. I guess things are beginning to wind down at 75 Morrisey Boulevard, rather quickly. I wonder what Ansin is planning to do with 56.

Speaking of Retro 56, what ever happened to Tom Evans? The man who did all on-air voice-over promotions for WLVI until the early 1990's. Excellent set of pipes.

Don't know about Evans, but you're right, one of the best voice-over artists I've ever heard on a TV station.

As far as the WLVI calls are concerned, I agree. The only reason I asked is that WHDH used to be WNEV, and I wasn't sure if Ansin was big on changing calls. Yes, I agree, it makes sense that WLVI will stick around. Wonder if the 56 will go into a circle like 7?

I also have to agree with you George, on the good chance that CW will be gone as soon as the season is over (or perhaps even sooner) for several reasons. First, CW requires a charge from affiliates while MyNetwork TV does not, and while there is "officially" a MyNetworkTV affiliate in the Boston market, it's not on a strong signal like 56, and I'm sure MyTV would like to have a stronger affiliate in Boston. So I don't think Ansin will keep paying for a network when there is a free alternative (even if CW is superior to MyNetwork ratings-wise). Second, is the fact that CW which is a joint venture with CBS would be on a station owned by a competitor of the CBS O&O affiliate. Since Tribune is no longer in charge, the friendly relationship between 56 and Tribune is over, and thus, CW along with it, whereas (I think) CBS would probably like to have CW for TV 38 (with apologies to TV38 fan). And finally, is the relationship between Ansin and Fox TV in Miami, (Fox owns/created MyNetwork TV). So yeah, I think it's logical that 56 will end up as MyNetworkTV and CW will be gone (perhaps to 38 to match 28). Just my 2 cents on this, not saying it will happen, but yeah...

Sounds very reasonable to me with that prediction. It only makes sense.. It would essientially be like it was before except with different programming. The CW i could see on 38 as it is from CBS who is related to the 38 network. Just like it was with UPN there because of CBS/UPN ownership. Ansin in charge means he would tug the strings he has with Fox for the MyNetworkTV and put it on there. Basically it turns into the WB and UPN with different names... pretty ironic.

Another thing about WLVI call letters is When the analog 56 (along with all other analog stations) goes off the air in early 2009 will ch 41 still map to 56.1 like it does now (UHF channel 41 is the frequency upon which WLVI-DT transmits.)

Right now WSBK-DT is practically worthless at present because of NO HD programming. (MNTV would have given them at least 12 hours)

Another mainor factor is what would be the status of The Tube? (56.2,though i assume most folks see this as Comcast digital channel 296)

Yes, the DT signal will still map to 56.1, as per the FCC. On the previous incarnation of this board, someone (who knows this stuff pretty well) wrote that it was part of the legislation, that all Digital TV broadcasts MUST map to their original dial position. I suppose they can go on 56.1, 56.3, or whatever they decide, but it has to be 56.

Tom Evans lives in Hampton Beach N.H. during the summer. In November he heads to the west coast of Florida for the winter. He plays in a senior basketball league on the west coast of Florida. According to a recent Boston Alumnae Newsletter he would be more than happy to take on anyone that will be willing to challenge him at a game of basketball if they will "get up off of their b_tts" and do it! How do I know this? I am engaged to be married to the best commercial television writer Channel 56 ever had that went on to WRKO, Tom Evan's (real name=Neil MacNevin) former fiance, Sandi Younts, a 35 year broadcast veteran from a North Carolina Broadcast Pioneering family. His loss, my gain.

their final good-byes on monday night the 18th. with the holidays just around the corner,
it's a nice touch by uncle ed, don't you think?
