WLW - Barbara Cain - epic fail!

To you drones who defend Barbara Cain's dreadful nightly newscasts on WLW:

In the 12:30AM report... "stolen CRAP" instead of SCRAP... not once, not twice, but THREE times!

Then, she stumbled and fumbled through a story about "the world's hottest pepper"

Absolutely pathetic, and a candidate for 'The Gong Show' at the very least.

That describes basically every newscast I've heard her anchor. Granted it's not many because usually it's Jack Crumley anchoring when I listen at night, but still.

Wow. This board is really a bunch of petty people. You really are going to go all in on one story? I work all night and I hear almost every newscast (including that one). Cain is better than any of the other females and a good number of the guys at WLW. I've actually done that job (not at that station).

You don't know why somebody screws up a read. A computer screen glitches, the audio you were going to play doesn't respond so you have to fill. I get so sick of reading all you no-nothings gripe about stuff you know nothing about.

Stuff I know nothing about? Seriously? Let me enlighten you... I DID have a job as an overnight anchor, on an AM N/T in a top 10 market, 20+ years ago. I also held the position of PD / OM at a station owned and operated by one of the big "three letter" networks. I can assure you with all certainty, the nightly potpourri of technical glitches, poorly executed rip & read newscasts, dead air, and playing the wrong sound cuts would not last long. While I am sure she is probably a lovely person, in radio, you are only as good as your last break. HOW is Barbara Cain better than anyone else? I don't hear the other anchors having so many "issues" (usually the same ones!) over and over again. But by all means, rave on, my rancid colleague... all of us "no-nothings" can't wait to hear your next list of excuses. ::)

You should listen to WGN which has a local newscast that is light years ahead of what WLW passes for a newscast today. It is certainly not just one flub on a newscast which happens from time to time.

20+ years ago? Yeah, it's exactly the same today as it was then. I have 25 years of experience, also as PD. I've hired and fired dozens of people like you and her. I know talent when I hear it. I also know the sound of a station that does not have it's technological act together. I also know that Clear Channel for all it's supposed greatness (and 18 billion in debt) uses what much of the rest of the industry would consider inferior equipment. At least for the on-air folks. WGN is an example of a state of the art setup.

She's ten times better than "I ov-er pro-nou-nce ev-uh-ree-thing" Brandy Srader and this new Neely woman is absolutely atrocious. I heard her giggle through a comedy of errors newscast the other day. In the middle of the afternoon, no less.

I'm going to double down on my previous statement. I read this board all the time without saying anything. But it's mostly a bunch of washed-up, burnt out has-beens who just cry about anyone who is still on the air. Most of them would be so lost if they walked into a modern studio they'd be lucky to get the microphone turned on.

Speaking of a voice I CAN NOT STAND: Brandy Srader. Give her the graveyard shift and give me Barbara Cain any day. If you want epic screw ups, watch channel 9 news. They have gotten terrible lately. John Materese trying to talk with a microphone with dead batteries, showing the wrong slides for the stories they are presenting, etc. Heads should roll there.

It's funny that you mention WCPO. I've heard that most of their problems have been because they are now using an automation system that runs everything in studio. So unless you fire that computer no heads will roll.

It took me weeks to realize she was saying Brandy.

All I ever heard was Brady. Still hear it that way nearly every time.

And would you have ever guessed her last name is Srader?

I used to think it was "Strader."
I'd rather hear someone overpronounce than sound nervous and screw things up. These critiques are not personal, contrary to what the earlier poster seems to think. It doesn't take a trained ear to hear what most of us here have heard.

I have had to air news packages from almost all of the WLW news staff and I personally have no problem with Barbara Cain. I have heard much worse in my career!

I like her voice much better than Srader. I can't stand listening to her. I think Cain's problem is the board operation when she does her reports. Too much dead air. It happened again last night at 11 PM.

What a shocker. Seriously folks, if a news anchor still can't work the board after ONE YEAR... there's a problem.

I call her Bradybrandy. She can't say Ohio (Oh-HI-YO...ecch). Chalk on a blackboard.

They used to have a guy on at night who could not say the call letters. Semun hunnerd...dubya dubya!
