WLW-FM?

With the trend of Legacy 50kw Am stations simulcasting on full power Fm, what about 107.1
for WLW-Fm with the Kiss format moving to 96.9
or 94.5? What do you think?

A better idea would be moving 700 WLW to 100.7 and 106.3 where they currently have Alternative rock then moving KISS to 94.5 and 96.9. I don't see it happening unless advertisers start shying away from the AM band totally.

There seems to be a lack of interest on the part of iHeart to give up an FM to simulcast a powerful AM. My examples are: WOR, KFI, WBZ, KTRH, and more are AM only. KOA Denver has a couple of FM translators, but no full FM simulcast. In addition, iHeart has been vocal to keep the ownership cap to include AMs.

WLW could move to a better translator but they don't seem to have an interest in blowing up Kiss or WEBN. Aside from ownership rules changes, there are no other options.

96.9 is an EMF signal. 94.5 is a terrible signal. And you can't put WLW on a weak translator and promote that as the main signal. 94.5 is merely a downtown signal to help fill in where the AM isn't good. 100.7 and 106.3 serve a purpose to combine with WEBN on ad buys. There is no legitimate reason to sacrifice a profitable FM signal for a WLW simulcast when the AM signal still does extremely well on its own.

Seems to be the same in Milwaukee. WISN 1130 is very strong in the ratings so I guess they feel an FM other than an HD2 is not necessary at this point.

Also of note, bouncing successful stations/formats around to other dial positions will, at least in the short term, have negative impact on that station/format. It will take a while for many listeners to mark and make the change. Most people have other, more important, things to think about besides 'what happened to this radio station that I listen to'.

If you do that then what's on 107.1?

96.9 and 94.5 are on the same tower with non-Directional signals. Putting KISS on both makes absolutely no sense at all. That's not how you utilize translators to cover a market. 96.9 is not an IHEART programmed signal. EMF owns and programs it. 94.5 is sandwiched between two bigger signals on 94.5 in Lexington and Dayton. The only reason that signal is listenable outside of downtown is because it's in mono.

Nielsen numbers came out today and WLW-AM is #1 with an 11.1 share. Can someone explain to us again why WLW "needs" and FM?

Interesting story about the "Iconic" WLW tower site becoming a Business park, with a actual park around the tower site.

This has been an ongoing story since 2014, when iHeart sold its tower properties to Vertical Bridge.

WXVU has done a great job covering the story and the changes that have happened at the site over the years. Here's one story from last year.

Thank you! Radio and Land Use, 2 of my favorites topics usually don't collide.

It doesn't necessarily now, but give it 5-10 years, yes

There's a thread that discusses how the development may affect the signal.

I started one of those topics last fall, and so far this spring the signal here in the Columbus area has been its old, usual, robust self. WLW was really hampered by cancellation late last summer and into the early fall. I haven't noticed any of that yet this year, but we also aren't nearly into the hot portion of the summer either.

Agreed with Ford Motor Company announcing it's dropping AM radios from all of its models in the next model year it's just a matter of time before other manufacturers follow suit.the EV manufacturers are already dropping AM.

No one that I'm aware of has ever accused iheartmedia of being visionary.
