WLW IBOC Part 2

North of Dayton, the hash covers 680-720 (670 and 730 is fine, except near Mason). Ain't nobody going to be DXing Cubs day games on WGN probably anywhere south and east of Indianapolis. Is WLW still audible north of Lafayette, IN?
______________

WGN was audible in Van Wert, Ohio with a slight ringing sound caused by the spashing of WLW's upper digital sideband. WLW is still audible near Lafayette and dosen't appear to impact upon WGN there. I'm not sure at what point along I-65 where WGN's IBOC begins to impact upon WLW.

I can get WLW (albeit weakly) 70 miles north of Chicago even with WGN running HD Radio.

WGN would make it into Central Ohio with groundwave, albeit weakly, before IBOC days.
WLW's IBOC is quite loud and abrasive here 90 miles away. Wow!

But have you tried WGN. See teh above posts of myself and Jeremy able to get WLW 400+ miles away with WGN running IBOC

In south-central Michigan, I've got WLW's hash blasting in on 680, 690 and 710, and while WGN is still audible, the hash makes it difficult to listen to. If nighttime IB(A)C operation becomes a reality, what little reception of WOR I can currently enjoy will be gone entirely.

I was in Detroit 2 weeks ago and no troubles at all with WLW. I listened to 680/690 with no troubles. Like wise with WGN. No troubles with WLW getting into them.

Listened to WOR, you realize that you are in one of the major nulls of the station.

I'm outside of any coverage areas for 680 or 690, so it's not as if it will affect my listening advsersely. However, the hash is very blatantly there at my location.

I know, and I expect it to not be there most of the time, but occasionally it'll make it.

I finally did perform my Central Ohio WGN groundwave check and WLW's hash was the only thing heard.
I can't imagine what 710 must be like in Central Indiana between WGN and WLW. The hash must be so loud it sounds like your radio is a blast furnace.

I believe the ground conductivity is strong in NW Indiana. I live in Gary and I get WLW during the day. Faint, but can hear it, even with WGN running IBOC. I can hear it better at dusk when the skywave kicks in, even with IBOC on. I don't know about once IBOC gets approved for night use. I know I can't always hear KXEL somewhat at local sunset, even when WCKY is still running IBOC until Sacramento sunset.

I was just in Indiana today and 710 sounds like a cross between a freight train and an old Soviet jamming station. In Indianapolis, WGN was partially covered by WLW hash, and in Lafayette, both WLW and WGN were about the same level and partially covered by each other's digital hash (was that corned or roast beef hash?).
______________
