I'm surprised WJAR does nt air Telemundo on 10.3.Keeping it in the NBC family.WRIW is a waste nowsince analoge is now dead.

Which brings me to this piont. Why are LP's still allowed to broadcast in analoge(spelling).

I thought the whole idea was to free up those frequencies and maybe down the line expand the FM band down to channel five to eliminate AM radio.I know the FCC does eventually want to eliminate AM moving AM stations to A a new FM band.

Are you talking about NBC affiliation or NBC ownership? WJAR is no longer an O&O, having been acquired by Media General a couple of years back.

Don't know for sure, though maybe it was because LPTV stations did not have as much funds as full-powered stations do. However, as more and more LPTVs are converting to digital voluntarily, they'll be a time when the FCC tells the remaining analog LPTVs to trade analog for digital.

I would imagine that, as "azumanga" suggests, it's because they don't have the funds to do it as quickly as the full-power operations.

The FCC has stopped accepting applications for new analog -LPs. They told those who already had applications on file they would need to amend the applications to specify digital operation, or the application would be dismissed. A fair number have in fact been dismissed.

They have indicated there will be a deadline for existing analog -LPs to go digital, but they have yet to state what that deadline will be.

There is no plan right now in the U.S. to move AM stations to FM. (there *is* such a plan in progress in Mexico) Commissioners have spoken out loud about the idea, but haven't taken any formal action yet.

I think any move to expand the FM band would face stiff opposition from existing stations.
