WLW's ice storm coverage

I think Seg Dennison did a fantastic job handling the commute problems during the beginning of the storm. Was great to just get real info from callers with just enough host feedback to keep things going. But then motor-mouth had to come on the air at 9 and screw up everything with his bi-polaric commentary.

Shame on the them though for not offering any real advise for those people without power. It took them forever to actually begin to offer information about how to maintain your house with no heat, how to keep as warm as possible, how to manage water pipes, etc. I think it was Willie who actually got the ball rolling on this aspect. Its a shame that callers were the ones with the info though, and not the station itself.

As I recall, it was Channel 9's Noon report who first began to provide real information about what to do if you lack electricity during sub-freezing weather situations. Good for them. Sure no one was watching at home if they lacked power, but many people lost power well after the storm ended and would have been pre-warned and advised just in case.

I take that back about Willie offering any advise to those without power. All he is talking about is installing a generator in his house.

Why aren't they telling people how to prepare their homes for being without electricity for extended periods of time in sub freezing temperatures?

Actually through his experience he was giving the information out from his character's perspective. That's very good and entertaining radio. What to do in a power outage is common sense. Don't use gas grills or generators indoors, use blankets, and if needed goto a shelter, hotel, or friend of the family. I've been without power before in the winter with windows blown out from a tornado earlier in the day. I survived and I don't think it was because I was in radio at the time that gave me the knowledge on how to keep warm.
