WLYF, WMXJ, & WAXY: Jefferson-Pilot becomes Lincoln Financial

As you've surely heard, WLYF, WMXJ, and WAXY now have a new parent company.

I heard a WLYF ID for the first time today, in a doctor's waiting room.

And I've noticed a new Majic 102.7 logo in print ads, mentioning 60s & 70s without the word "oldies". (Or had they dropped oldies already?)

Has anyone noticed and differences in programming on any of the three stations?

The program schedule on Majic's site looks about the same.

Big News soon?. "I can hardly Wait"!. Joseph Gallant made an interesting comment about Jefferson Pilot recently, and an overseeyer said he was just posting about nothing. I will miss JP

So far no changes here in Charlotte where Lincoln now owns 1110 WBT, 107.9 WLNK (The Link)and WBTV Channel 3 (CBS).

Ah but it's just not the same. I had the pleasure of giving the ID like this: "This is the flagship station of Jefferson-Pilot Communications 1110 WBT Charlotte!

Lincoln Financial has no experience in broadcasting, but that might not matter if enough of the Jefferson-Pilot Broadcast folks stay aboard. They sure didn't waste any time changing the name!

A side note, Jefferson-Pilot (known as Jefferson Standard before merging with Pilot Life) has owned WBT since 1945. They bought the station from CBS.

Assuming you're referring to the hourly "We Care for Kids" PSA position at :30 which mentions the parent company -- LITE FM has been mentioning "A Lincoln Financial Group Station" since the morning of April 3rd when the merger of the two parent companies (Lincoln National Corp. and Jefferson-Pilot Corp.) officially took place. The Jefferson-Pilot name has been eliminated company-wide -- thus the necessary change of "Jefferson-Pilot Communications" to "Lincoln Financial Media".

The word "oldies" had been phased out more than a year ago in MAJIC's on-air and print branding. April 3rd was chosen as a convenient date to introduce a new print logo for MAJIC.

Beyond the hourly mention of "Lincoln Financial Group", there have been no substantive music or formatic changes to either station coinciding with the merger -- just the continuing evolution of both formats to remain viable. Sometimes one small change can cause us to perceive that there have been others.
