WLZR

Hey guys...just thought you all might be interested to know that the WLZR calls have surfaced, on an under-utilized AM that Saga owns here in Asheville, NC. My thought is that they are saving them in case they want to use them again on an FM at some point in the future. Anyone have any thoughts as to why they are hanging onto the calls?

I can think of two reasons...

1: Prevent a Milwaukee competitor from snapping them up
2: Hedging their bets, and keeping them available just in case<P ID="signature">______________

This is common, especially among the bigger broadcasting groups. When 97.3 gave up the WLTQ calls, they went to another Clear Channel station, also in North Carolina. This is what's called 'parking'.

Saga does own another "Lazer 103", in Des Moines. Calls are KAZR. Sounds very similar to Milwaukee's former Lazer. Don't think they'd be using 'W' calls, though.

Because they are great call letters -- WLZR -- LAZER!!!!

They were dumb to drop those calls from the station. THE HOG -- sounds like a small town classic rocker. Milwaukee deserves better than that.

But HOG can give connotations of Harley-Davidson, which may be a reason for choosing it.

Not sure, but I think that might venture into some murky legal waters with Harley.

And it sure doesn't scream "Harley" to me, when during every sweep you hear that obnoxious "oink oink."
