WMAG recieved in SC

I got WMAG on my basic GM radio in a parking lot yesterday around 11am in Laurens, SC -- about 40 miles SE of Greenville, SC. Impressive catch, as I always get WKXC 99.5 from Augusta on that frequency, not to mention the distance. It was crystal clear and sounded like it was next door. I believe WMAG/Greensboro, WLYT/Charlotte, and WBBQ/Augusta, GA (I was getting all 3 of these ACs) were playing the same song at the same time ::)

WMAG is the strongest signal coming out the triad......with WKRR coming in 2nd...those are the only 2 stations that can put a listenable signal into raleigh AND charlotte

Weather inversions can allow RF to skip. Happens from time to time. There are people who specialize to tracking reports.

I remeber about 8 years or so, I use to pick up 99.5 east of Raleigh before Clear Channle did some work to that signal. I remeber for the days when Voyager Communications started that station as Magic 99.5 WMAG. The same Voyager Communications who started WRDU Classic Rock.

99.5 comes in well through most of Raleigh. 92.3, not so much. They're mostly bled over by 92.5.

98.7 comes in well. Second to WMAG. People call WZTK 101.1 strong, but I think the signal is fairly weak for what it is. It's only out of Burlington, and there's sometimes too much noise to listen for long in parts of Raleigh, especially east Raleigh. Honestly they should be able to do better.

107.5 and 100.3 both do not put really listenable signals into most of Raleigh at all, though both pick up reasonably well anywhere just west of Raleigh. Try listening to WKZL anywhere in the city, and it's a total mess.

there is a website dedicated to forecasting troposperic ducting, which allows short range skip across VHF and UHF with a max of 500 miles at http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo.html ......the "noise floor" over the years has gotten higher for FM simply because there are more stations on the band now than in years past.....WKZL, WPAW and WJMH are all on the same stick in summerfield NC and all pretty much fade around the same area heading east towards raleigh... WVBZ's tower is off old randleman road on the outskirts of greensboro.

WZTK's tower is out in the 'woods' of alamance county near Snow Camp, you can actually see the tower from Siler City in chatham county at night on US 421 N, usually by zebulon their signal is pretty much non-existent...but WPCM 920 is still very listenable if you have a decent AM reciever

WSMW and WQMG share a tower near randleman NC......

I think WMAG shares a tower with WFMY TV but not sure...
