WMAQ-AM 670 now gone 5 years! But...

I've heard both July 31 & August 1 of 2000 as the final dates for the old WMAQ-AM 670 - anybody know the Final Answer? Thanks, Whitey O'Day

...WMAQ's final live news broadcast was the afternoon drive shift on July 31st, after which they kicked into a dozen hours of "When Radio Was" repeats. Then there was a looped stunt file played from 6:00 A.M. to Noon on August 1st, at which time the simulcast with WSCR (AM 1160) began. After a few days, 1160 became WXRT(AM), simulcasting WXRT-FM, and all the Score programming switched to 670, which scrapped the WMAQ call sign later that month...<P ID="signature">______________

Wow! It looks like the 5 year anniversary of the demise of WMAQ-670 didn't create even the smallest of notice anywhere else. (as far as I know)
