I only know WMAS-FM totally overpowers downtown Springfield. Their short tower next to US Route 20 and the Connecticut River puts out a lot of power. There are times when WHYN-FM 93.1 of Springfield won't come in well by their own studio. I believe it's on Main Street by the Mass Mutual Center.
On the flip side, about the only Springfield FM station I have any luck with in New Britain or Berlin is WAQY-FM 102.1.
Don’t know how everything is today, but WRCH used to be audible on a car radio or home stereo in Springfield. So, in that sense the two overlapped, but a clock radio or Walkman might have trouble getting WRCH in much of Springfield. WRCH also has never cared about Springfield and has never been much of a player there. It has historically targeted greater Hartford and New Haven.
WMAS-FM used to bill well, at least relative to other Springfield stations. You’re only going to make so much money in a market the size of Springfield. In other words, you used to be able to make a decent living if you did well there, but the top biller in Springfield probably wouldn't even make the top-10 in Boston.
