WMBI AM (now WXES) 1110 off the air

1997 changes in antenna system. Unspecified. Public Comment.

MOD OF CP CHNG DAY PWR & MAKE CHNGS IN ANT. SYSTEM

Maybe they changed the electrical height? Is the FM on that tower or another at the same site? Looks lie they are both on a 500 foot tower at the same site. They did correct coordinates, still don't know why it was relicensed.

WGNZ Fairborn, OH, reported as 1.6 and 2 watts Night on various applications. Up against the post practically of the WBT 0.5 mV/m Night Skywave.

I would think that WGNZ could do better with a different pattern Night. I would think WJML could substantially increase above 10 watts Night using a tighter pattern with the existing towers, plus perhaps one of the diplexed WARD 750 Night towers. KCCV 760 is similarly far from the WJR 0.5 mV/m 50% skywave contour as WJML is from both WBT and KFAB, and has 200 watts Night. Looks like WXES/WMBI could be about 2 watts nondirectional PSSA.

AM and FM are from the same tower, and soon the FM translator 9W292GB) as well. One is for sure. The tower has been replaced, but I don't know when that happened. See the attached pictures. First one is from sometimes in 1990's and the second one from yesterday.

And BTW speaking of silent stations, local WNVR AM 1030 has been off the air since yesterday.

It looks like they consolidated the FM antenna at the top and eliminated the old V POL Bays which perhaps increased the electrical height, with more tower and less isolated pole on top.

It looks like they consolidated the FM antenna at the top and eliminated the old V POL Bays (was less ERP V) which perhaps increased the electrical height. Or maybe that was the AUX which was 3 Bays.

Looking at the different applications, it does look like the AUX was the 3 Bay at lower height, at least at that point. The V ERP was once 52 kW, so it may have been separate lower V Bays there earlier in their History.

They came back on the air this afternoon. Must have been damage due to the storms we had recently.

I've noticed that they've been off at night for the past week or so. But that's nothing new for them. Their nighttime operations have been sporadic for years....to put it mildly. I didn't realize they've also been off during daylight hours as well. Their translator is still operating, however. Both the AM and translator are located just outside Crystal Lake where I live. But separated by a distance of about five miles. The AM is west of town just off route 176. The translator is east of town, also just off 176. My home location is closer to the AM site.

Update: WNVR-AM was back on the air last night with their 120-watt night pattern. My guess is that they may have been off due to damage from storms which blew through our area durimg the past week. (Although, as I said, the AM had been off for about a week or so.....starting before the severe weather events,)

Can you hear WBZ at night when WNVR is on?

Absolutely. The only way I can NOT hear WBZ is to null WNVR. The opposite is essentially true. If I null WNVR basically all I hear is WBZ. I'm pretty much in the WNVR null that protects WBZ.

WEXS is back on the air since this afternoon playing classical music. Remains to be seen when they resume with regular programming (Spanish religion). They were not on the air this morning when I checked, but noticed them back about an hour ago.

Thanks for the update. I'll check them out tomorrow and be curious to see if there's any difference in the signal. (I'm not expecting that.)

There shouldn't be any difference in signal as nothing has changed as far as the antenna/transmitter system is concerned. The only difference is that the new owners will be leasing the space and antenna from Moody Bible (WMBI FM) and that they will also install an FM translator on the same site.

WXES is now on with regular programming since Sunday morning. Format is religious programming in Spanish.

Thanks for the update. Figures to be a very smooth transition from WMBI-AM....which was also broadcasting a religious format in Spanish on 1110.

Weird things are happening on the WXES translator (W292GB) frequency of 106.3 FM. For the past couple days I am hearing a station on 106.3 FM relaying the programming of WPPN (106.7 FM). Same programming is being played on 107.1 FM.

The signal on both 106.3 and 107.1 appear to be about the same strength. I am not sure if the signal on 106.3 is from the WXES site in Addison, Illinois. FCC shows a license for W295CG Lake Bluff, IL on 107.1 FM and CP for the same translator (W295CG Lake Bluff, IL) on 106.9 FM. I am wondering if they are testing the 106.9 CP on 106.3 FM instead. Both 106.9 and 107.1 show the transmitter location as the tower near Dundee Rd and Arlington Heights Road intersection, which is the same location as the WPPN transmitter.

That IS weird. And I'm too far away from the Buffalo Grove tower check it out. 106.3 at my location is a fair signal from 6kw WYRB from Genoa, IL.

I did some more listening on 106.3 and 107.1. On my home set up with an outdoor FM antenna I get strong signals on both frequencies on my Sangean HDT-20 receiver.

Then I decided to have a listen on my car radio driving towards the proposed WXES translator site in Addison, Illinois. I am located about 2.7 miles away from the WXES stick. Right away the reception on the car radio was much poorer than on the home rig with the outdoor antenna. Driving towards the WXES antenna the signal got worse. When I got close to the Army Trail Road and Addison Road intersection, WSRB started to overpower the WPPN relay station. Same thing on 107.1 RFM. WSPY took over the frequency. This pretty much confirms that the WXES translator W292GB is not on the air. I have a feeling both relays of WPPN originate from the WPPN tower in Arlington Heights. Now, how they (W295CG) can operate a station on a frequency that they don't have a license for is another question.
