WMBI's afternoon show an odd duck for the station?

I happen to be scanning the dial wednesday, I hardly ever listen to WMBI (90.1FM) cause its something my parents listen to since I'm not into the talk/preach at me station. But the dj's seem to not even fit that catagory of talk/preach like Moody is supposed to be? Are they trying to change their image? Is there anyone that acutally listens to this station?

Without quoting numbers, non-com station Aribtrton analyzer Radio Research Consortium (www.rrconline.org) in the winter book (the most recent available) puts 'MBI somewhere between Viva and Real Oldies. Sizeable cume and TSL. If it was the spring book, they would be tied with 'CKG, Soul 106 and the Zone.

I believe that description doesn't violate anything.

They've been a music-intensive CCM for large portions of their programming day for some time now, AFAIK.

Yes they are. They've added songs like "just a Little Bit" by 50 CENT, "Wait Till You See My.......(The Whisper Song) by Ying Yang Twins and "Grind On Me" by Pretty Ricky.

It's obvious they are going for the Hip-Hop crowd, word is they are thinking of bringing in the syndicated "Star and Buck Wild Show" for mornings.

Hey, the times they are a changing!

I thought that you were a fan of Denise Pagano?

In comparison with other Inspo stations in the country, WMBI's listenership is rather large. When you add in the listenership from their sister stations, you'll find one rather large number.

I am a fan! I really miss Joe and Denise (I think that was his name? Can't remember since it was a while ago) on 104.7fm. I travel a whole lot, so I try and catch Christian radio in whatever city I am in. I'm in Chicago quite often, and loved listening to 104.7. However, that said, she just doesn't "fit" over at 90.1. I liked it when she was more herself...here she seems to reserved. My parents (who are in their late 70's) don't like the show because of the music (funny-I agree but in a different way) as they still live in Hoffman Estates and listen to WMBI everyday. I wish she'd get on KLove or another network that I can just flip the dial in whatever city I'm in and she needs to be at a station that she can be more like she was at 96.9FM in Indiana (I think that was the station, I have it programmed into my car radio). Do you agree?

If 90.1 is getting a 1-1.5 share with the current format, I wonder what kind of rating they would get if they put on a format like 89.7 WONU which is lot more upbeat and fun. I would think they could at least double their ratings. However, I don't see a group like Moody do anything but the same boring talk and music they have been.

Yeah...and completely unfocused, untargeted, and incoherent. Now there's a great idea for a format switch! [/tongue in cheek]

Or, cut them in half. How well is Shine 89.7 doing in the ratings?

Right. Not well at all.

'MBI should stay just as they are. The changes within their format will only make them better. A flip to a mish-mash format certainly won't help that heritage station. They'd lose listeners in droves.
