WMBR knocked off the air

No need for Grady. Our volunteer on-staff MIT alum techies were called in, and they came in and got us back on in less than three hours.

Though it coincidentally happened during a lightning storm, the problem had nothing to do with the tower, antenna, or lightning. Apparently, a connector behind one of the remote transmitter control and metering units in the studios spontaneously loosened up and fell out, all by itself.

The airchain is set up so that if the transmitter loses the connection to the remote studio controls, it shuts down rather than allowing it to stay on the air without regulation. This is not the first time this has happened.

Also, ignore WMBR's RBDS display. The computer that controls it crashed Monday afternoon, and the text is stuck on what was being displayed at that time.
