WMBR Miami Beach Radio

Does anyone know the history of the former WMBR (Miami Beach Radio) such as the years WMBR was in Miami, the format and the frequency? So far I've determined, unconfirmed, that WMBR moved from Miami Beach to Tampa sometime in the 20s or possibly 30s, later moving to Jacksonville where WMBR originally was on AM 1460 and later moving to AM 600; both Jacksonville. Any useful historical information is greatly appreciated.

You might be confusing it w/ WMBF, which ran seasonally and shared time with WIOD, if I have read correctly.

WQAM I believe was the only all-year-round station in the 20s.

I admit I may not have all my facts straight which is why I started this thread so those "in the know" can fill in the blanks. My understanding is there was actually a WMBR which moved from Miami to Tampa to Jacksonville. I'm not exactly sure of the dates, though. WMBR may very well have started out as WMBF and later became WMBR. The call letters WMBF must have stood for Miami Beach Florida?

I believe WMBF was pretty much 'absorbed' into WIOD in the 40s...

As for WMBR/WZNZ, I don't know what to say....I know there is a company called Broadcast Pro-File (where I got the above info from), that has histories of radio stations.....Mailing address was in California and I bought a few station histories from them over 10 years ago...You might want to look them up and please, let me know what you find.

As for 'lost' radio stations of the 20s in Miami, I know there was a WGBU licensed to Fulford-By-The-Sea (today's North Miami Beach), and also a "WIAZ" (no relation to WINZ), that existed briefly in the 20s.

Additional note, probably better in the Jax board....I have a listing or listings of WMBR from the 40s where it is in 1400, moving to 1460 later on.
