WMC 790 apparently going back to Sports

From 92.9/680's FB page https://www.facebook.com/929ESPN comes this news:

"Here you go... We've been reading thousands and thousands of listener e-mails & getting tons of feedback about our station. Beginning next Monday, the Jim Rome will move to 790 AM... ESPN 92.9 FM/680 AM will begin airing Colin Cowherd's Show in it's entirety 9am till 12 noon, then we'll have Scott VanPelt from 12-1pm & The Eric Hasseltine Show starts at 1pm (till 4pm) here. www.929espn.com"

Also hearing (but not confirmed) that Fox Sports is going to 790; not surprising since KQPN hasn't showed up in the ratings in a while, but I hate it for Chris Vernon.

wow! seems like a lot of sports stations to split a 3 share. Maybe they will turn the fm back to a music station. Bummer the NBA isn't starting up as planned.

I can't imagine 730 stays sports; it wouldn't surprise me if it went dark. On the other hand, if I were Entercom, I would hire Vernon and Roser for mornings at 790; they are too talented to not get snapped up by Entercom.

The ratings don't matter much for sports stations. It's one of the few formats that easy to sell without numbers.

I wouldn't be surprised to see 730 to go to dollar a holler since they're now owned by the same people who own WMQM and WLRM. Get ready for more crackpots and conspiracy freaks. :-\ :p

Last time I looked at the F.W. Robbert website, I saw no evidence of their ownership of 730. The only real use that they would have for it would be if the other two were completely sold out (no available airtime) or if 730 reached an area not already served by the other two stations, and based on the comments here, that seems unlikely.

What was 730's big impediment to ratings: programming or signal? I seem to recall it always being a troubled signal during the day, contrasted to 790's strong signal and better sound quality.

When I turned out the lights on KSUD, it was set for 250w directional signal during the day and 230w omnidirectional at night. We got the approval to go to 1kw but we never did anything with it till we got shut down by KLove. And considering the same antenna array is used now for KQPN, I'm assuming the approval expired or they haven't done anything with it either.

Oh, yeah, I remember the whole lawnmower incident well. It wasn't long after that Bill Pollack sold WPLX. I'd like to thank whomever knocked that tower down. WPLX was the worst job I have ever had. The job I have now is way better.

They've tried and had lowballed him. He's going 24/7 with repeats of his show on 730. Listen to his statement here: http://chrisvernon.blogspot.com/

Long, but worth it.

Couldn't KQPN 730 just do the same thing to WHBQ and swipe Yahoo! Sports Radio, since it airs mostly on nights and weekends? Shift to talk or comedy with shows like Kevin & Bean or Free Beer & Hot Wings? I can't imagine 24/7 'Verno Radio' being permanent.

That would require kqpn having a signal and someone at kqpn having a vision. Seems like brother Vernon is blaming others for his problems. grow up and quit whining.

You listened to a completely different piece of audio than I did if that's what you're taking away from the segment.

Sounds like a whiny little cry baby to me. One thing for sure, he is mighty proud of himself. Sorry Verno, you're just not that good. Verno 24/7 is to
tal stupidity.

Sorry vE

The LAST thing I hear from Vernon is crying. He explains that he makes more money by producing, owning and selling his own show than he would going to Entercom or Flinn. Since they won't have anything but Verno and MSU athletics after Sunday, why NOT do this? I'm betting both the owners and Vernon will make more money now that Fox has gone to 790.

Your thoughts? Or would you rather 730 become dollar-a-holler?

Vernon could pull a Thaddeus Matthews and simply LMA 730 and sell his own time and put on his own format. This way it could remain sports without a network clearance.
