WMEL 1300

I guess the lack of chatter proves my point:

WMEL is irrelevant in the market. Have been for quite awhile and likely will until someone else takes them over and flips the format.

Should I be surprised?

As soon a Harper misses a lease payment or two to Rama, you can pretty much figure that Rama will put
something else on 1300, and WMEL will cease to exist. It's hard to relevant with Duke & the Doctor 2
hours a day, several 3 tier talk shows, and what used to be a paid hour at 6pm... biggest problem with
them being relevant however is they can't seem to stay on the air an entire day. No one is going to set
1300 on a radio and leave it.

Payment to Rama for what? I had herd that Rama owns the building an was jist allowing Harper to use the space, cus Rama couldnt keep WTIR afloat. I dont thik Rama or Harper/WMEL have much, if any mony at all do they?

Rama owns the License for AM 1300 ...WMEL/Harper, lease the use of the license, under an LMA...if
Rama, lost the license, Harper would be off the air. WMEL also leases the building, transmitter, towers,
well tower, and everything else to put WMEL on the air. Harper owns some of the equipment, mostly the
Star guides, Automation system and a few odds and ends. But, it is Rama's station.

;D It's still the first station I ever worked for and I'd like to have it ..to play with..How Much? Does Moody Ranch still have cows on the property on Pluckebaum Road? BIG APE

Two things ive askedabot that have never been answered:

Is WMEL back on full power(Did there long talked bout antenna repairs ever happen)

Has Harper taken over running things at WROD is Daytona?

I know that WMEL definitely sounds different than it did. You can now clearly receive it throughout Melbourne, and a good deal of Palm Bay. That was not the case a couple of months ago. They've probably gotten all their towers online and tuned. Their programming lineup is pretty good too. The addition of Neal Boortz brings something that Brevard hasn't had before.

??? Said it before I'll say it again...WRKT was my first station...1300 in Cocoa Beach..How Much, when and where..I miss those old cow patties around the towers on Pluckebaum Road!

Hmmm, you always bash WIXC and now you think MEL sound good...HAHAHHAHAHAH

If you have nothing useful to contribute, why not just remain silent? Yes, WMEL has definitely improved its signal and its programming. No, it will never be a big player in Brevard. That's because there's not even enough room for two AM news/talk stations in Brevard, much less three.

I will remind you of this statment next time you chime in with false and erronneous statements regarding WIXC.

Since you can't hear WMMB/WMMV in most of the central and north parts of the county there is room for good talk radio. If I ran WMEL I would go all local.....

All local is the answer absoultely...I'm available 2 Grand a week! BIGAPE!

Well, Paperbill, WIXC has another thread of discussion as you well know. However, since you chose to bring it up in this thread, let me clearly say that I have made no false statments regarding WIXC. That would by lying, and I am not a liar. I am not, obviously, as much of an insider with Genesis and BM's thinking as you are. Heck, for all I know you might BE BM. I grant you, you seem to know what the station is going to do before it does it. I am not such an insider, so my predictions based on my observations may not have been as accurate as yours, but that's no reason to accuse me as you have. Can you tell me which statements I have made that are false? I'd sure appreciate it. I believe every statement I've made is based on personal knowledge and direct personal observations. That's what my predictions were based on as well. But if that is not true, I would be happy to readily admit it. Anyway, thanks a bunch in advance for those details.

We know what's missing in Brevard and every other market in the USA-decent sales-marketing strategy better local programming ideas and flesh and blood to distribute to the audience and advertisers. All of the brain trusts are out of radio, perhaps posting on this site, and doing nothing but thinking about a time in our nation when folks got up and really went to real radio stations and created, developed and marketed fun, imagination and dollar signs in the minds and thoughts of advertisers and listeners. Drugs, broken relationships, hype about astract (and now proven to be perverted) lifestyles along with a gradual selling out of culture and working standards of community behavior slashed right into the radio subculture. We sit here and attack folks like Bruce Maduri, who should get an award, not for his smart management, or community relationships, but as someone willling to pour money into these markets for many years looking for a glimmer of hope or spark of interest from the community that someone really cares about local and really real radio.

When Bud Paxon called 104.1 Real Radio, the urge to kill in my mind had to be curtailed with the help of the off button. Really Real Radio would employ people who can talk, perhaps never laughing at their own comments (cackling chickens of the airways these days) and avoiding the drug induced "like, like exactly, correct" and other absurd "I'm on drugs from my doctor" expressions of a lost tribal generation. Sorry I've exceeded the 8 second attention span of most of the under 35's on line here. But the dang facts that sicken most of us are very obvious. If Bruce Maduri could muster the key players who have made themselves popular with Really Real Radio over the years in Brevard and other Central Florida Counties, the war would be declared and the wimps who own businesses in these areas would have to be taken from the houses one by one and perhaps tied up and forced to spend the money needed to bring real revenue streams back to the radio. The glory days worked because clients supported live and local radio and the listeners flocked to their events and there was little doubt their ad campaigns were effective. Then the lazy crowd showed up at the broadcast village and wholesalers stole the prime rated stations and began their take it or leave it sales pitches. Next the voice trackers and syndicated shows stole the local banter and soon the whole industry other than a few crazy guys like Bruce Madurie hung around mixing cheap and dirty with "work with me". The circus will not be here much longer. Either radio gets back to kicking butt and taking names, or the silence of the lambs will be our new tunes around the land.

Mr Really Real Radio, I agree with many of the things you said in your posting and have always been an advocate of local radio and the way things were in the good ole days (whenever those were) hence my name Nostalgia. Not sure about any of the Genesis properties over on your side of the state, but over here on the left coast of FL there is one example I would like to offer in response to your comments about Mr. Maduri. When he purchased 820 and set in motion a format and frequency swap among their other Tampa Bay stations Genesis sent out press releases everywhere hyping the change and specifically mentioning 1470 would become "Mega Memories" oldies and real DJs would be hired! Never happened. First we got all Christmas music and then "Timeless" from ABC and now "BizTalk TampaBay".

This is not meant as a criticism of Bruce Maduri, hell you might be Bruce Maduri!! I do not count him/you among the evil empire of the big "C's" and I respect him/you for putting his/your money where his/your mouth is when it comes to radio. Personally I dont agree with a couple of his/your programming choices but I guess thats why he/you owns a bunch of radio stations and I dont. I only brought up the above example because I thought there might again be a live and local station with a music format in our area and yes, I wanted to be a part of it. I was very sad to see 1470 join the gaggle of talkers.

And what exactly does this have to do with the WMEL 1300 thread? :)

;D ;D I don't know, but I think it's some of the best posts I have seen lately from anyone! I should have never let 104.1 go to start with and I'm sorry and paying for it now! BIGAPE!

Same thing about WRKT 1300!

For what its worth - saw the property was sold at tax sale in Dec 2010 for $91K to some LLC out of Ft. Lauderdale. Taxes due were $21K and there were some liens from other mortgages. Not sure how much of a premium above outstanding taxes and liens there was but still sounds like amazing deal for 9 acres and those towers and building.

Info is on Brevard County Property Appraisers website :

Is WMEL still on the air or has it gone dark?
