WMEN 640?

Hey

What happened to 640 Sports? Imagine yesterday afternoon, as I was curious to hear excuses ERRRR talk about the Miami Heat's demise, tuned to 640, and only got Cuba. Of all the times to be silent.....

Still off the air today.

Any info? James Crystal throwing in the towel? (Yankee fans wouldn't like that)

EDIT: Maybe they are upgrading? I know they have a CP for upping power....

The WMEN website has a notice that "due to techinal difficulties at the transmitter site, WMEN is currently off the air, listen to sister station WFTL 1400, we hope to be back on the air soon"......... not an exact quote, but that's the gist of it.

Now I don't know why technical problems at their transmitter site would also affect their broadcast stream, but they are not streaming at this time either.

btw- now you can receive what I receive 24/7 on 640, Cuban 24/7........... WVLG never slips this far south and the Cuban station is pretty strong here day and night.

Ah, would have never thought of 1400. (Heck, not many ppl think of 640!)

Apparently the country music is expendable.

Apparently! I've wondered about the country format, whether there's a real future there, or if it was just a placeholder.

I still can't comprehend, how or why a technical problem at the transmitter site would affect their streaming.

What am I'm missing here? (other than gray matter between my ears?!?) :)

Yah.....I have no idea why no streaming. Post-Heat talk oughta be available outside of 1400. That coulda/shoulda/woulda been those guys' time to shine. Kinda embarrassing for them. (Not that their ratings are stellar anyway.)

Even streaming, Yankeeball would be blacked out.

<John Sterling> THAAAAAAAAAAAAA Yankees-----can anyone hear me? </JS>

Every station I've worked for, be it an FM or AM...we always had an a main and auxilary transmitter. Technical issue on main, you fired up the Auxilary. Guess they don't have one, which isn't a big surprise.

Of course they had a CP for a big power increase and let it expire...
