WMEX 106.5 "X 106"

Listed by a user below is X 106's new website. I like the idea, but must say, I think they're playing too many oldies still. I can kind of see what they are doing now. I think they are trying to add more 70's and 80's, but still play many of the 60's. I think they'd do better off as a 70's and 80's station playing many of the hits from them. They should have a good mixture of music. Classic Rock (Boston, J. Geils, Tom Petty, etc), and a good mixture of 70s/80s top 40 as well.

I think they are trying more of a WROR approach, or even a WQSO style format. The only thing I can suggest to them is that X106 goes for the 70s/80s, as WQSO plays 60s/70s and see who wins the book then. It is time for a 70s/80s mix of all music genres on the seacoast. WMEX should skip the 60s, and play the 70s/80s. I'll be listening all the time then!

Cheers,
Lenny

You know, I heard the new guy, "Shadow." It was a generic liner for sure. I really hope they are going to put on a real crew instead of those generic liners. That's the only way they will be able to go up against stations like WQSO, The Bay, WERZ, etc...Any station for that matter.

I know if I am busting my ass at work, I want to hear the (real and live) dj sounding busy too. I wouldn't be interested in a generic liner telling me the station info, etc. That's what the "offical voice" or liner guy is for. I just hope that they will at least throw a staff on between 6a-mid. Good station indeed, but they need to start sounding more like they are going to compete with the others on the seacoast. In order to do that, the music format needs to be tight, and there has to be an airstaff just full of energy, and ready to take on the powers of the other stations in Portsmouth/Dover. I just really hope they realize this, they could do such a good job if they do.

WMEX-1510 "X-15"

During the final year of the original WMEX's run, as a Top 40 station, from the summer of 1974, until March, 1975, they were using the slogan, "X-15". In March,1975, they flipped to MOR, and than to Talk, in 1976. Eventually, many call letter changes, and formats, have followed, starting with WITS, WMRE, WSSH, WKKU....and a few others. Presently, they are doing Sports/Talk as WWZN....
