No, I have to agree with you with the Wolfman Jack comment. WMEX needs to sound more like a WHEB or WOKQ in reference to the liners, spots, and air talent. Dare I say programming in general. I also hear them playing too many oldies still. I've noticed WQSO has stepped up on their oldies from 60's and 70's (Diana Ross and her bimbos, Frankie Valley, The Birds, Tokens, etc), so what WMEX could do it step up on the formats for the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Maybe even throw some 90's in there. Play stuff that will equaly, but successfully take a bite out of The Bay and WQSO. Play some Rolling Stones from the sixties, and some Boston from the 70's, then some Van Halen from the 80's, and maybe some Sheryl Crow from the 90's. I don't know, make it different, but then again, compete with the other stations by sounding just as mighty and powerful.
That's just my opinion of course. As far as their signal, it really is a good signal. Portsmouth-Dover-Rochester does pick it up strong enough to call it a P-D-R station. It does have many weak spots, especially in downtown Portsmouth and even a few places in downtown Dover, but it's nothing which would cause an issue with listenership/advertisers. WHOM has several weak spots just 20 miles from the xmitter (thanks to the nearby physical geography), but look at there general coverage overall. I have even heard a few weak spots for WOKQ- in Dover-which just happens to be that 50,000 watt giant located Dover. WMEX has the potential to be a P-D-R station, but in my opinion of the game, it's all a big programming and popularity hill they need to climb. They must clean/build their programming to sound almost like corporate radio (like the others) and must also get their name in P-D-R as well.
