WMEX playing Italian Music!

WMEX will never be successful the way the station is programmed. I stopped listening when I heard that Italian hour on Friday afternoon. The METV FM programming is superb. It is a top 10 station in Chicago. The playlist and presentation during the day is terrible. Obscure 50s and 60s songs do not fit the format. If they think live DJs during the day is salable then they must use the METV FM song library and liners for consistency. Get rid of the Italian hour and any other shows that don’t fit the format. Cut back on the endless DJ banter to short and crisp and relevant talk. On a positive note, The Paul Perry morning show is enjoyable and entertaining. It is not promoted on the station at all. The FM translator is never mentioned except during station ID. I am not sure but doesnt the legal ID for the translator require calls plus COL? They stick in 101.1 FM in the middle. I called months ago on this and they haven’t changed. The bottom line is a real program director is needed.

But theyll just find a PD , if they had one.. who sees it their way.... and goes down with the ship. any PD.. like me whod try and buck their trend. .would be thrown out.

Translators can ID via FSK which is inaudible to the human ear

There are frequent promos for Paul Perry's Monday morning show (recorded by Paul) run during their live weekend programming, where he mentions features, contests, etc... that he's "working on" for the Monday show. I haven't heard those run during the weekdays, but I hear the live weekday DJ's often mention Paul's show.

The FM translator is so weak that they don't bother promoting it besides the ID. Most listeners outside of a few miles radius of Weymouth center would find they can't get it. It's only on the air so that they can keep an FM translator license active. They wanted a more powerful translator that would ideally serve metro-Boston, but couldn't get an available frequency. They're still hoping for an opportunity for a better translator signal, and having one already on the air may give them a head start applying over others.

Having one on the air already really gives them no advantage that i can think of in either applying for one whenever a window opens.. or buying another one... except if someone selling wants the one they have for some misguided reason
