WMEX?

So why doesn't prog talk work here? Again it's been tried but maybe those on the left are more into what public radio does. And they do get high ratings.

Interesting. I know Eagan and Braude do well. I've always been curious why that "success" on public radio doesn't translate into the for-profit radio sector. From a business perspective, I would think it would be a "no brainer"... But, perhaps their "success" wouldn't translate into "profit" for a station not subsidized by tax dollars and donations?

Let one liberal (on most issues) offer his view. I use radio mostly for music, sports and non-political talk. I occasionally listen to NPR or SiriusXM's in-house equivalents, but never listened to Air America when it was active or to the dedicated liberal talk channel on SXM, "Progress." (The equivalent conservative channel is branded "Patriot," which I've always thought implies that liberals are unpatriotic, but it used to be worse -- they used to be called "Patriot" and "Left"! And you thought big media management types were all libs! I wonder if conservatives feel the same way about the lib channel implying that they aren't progressive.) I get radio news mostly from the BBC World Service or whatever terrestrial stations still have top-of-the-hour
news summaries. I also read a lot of news and commentary from various sources, mainly newspapers either in print or online. I even check out Rush or Savage once in a while, just for entertainment and to grudgingly admire their skill in service to their cause. But I don't watch or listen to Rachel Maddow and the like because I have formed my opinions from exposure to other information sources, and even by watching unfiltered government on C-Span. Why do I need to listen to someone, basically, tell me things I already know? To reassure me that I'm right? What's the point of that? I'd rather be learning something new, or enjoying a song or a symphony or a ballgame. It seems to me that conservatives need that reinforcement more than liberals do, and I'm at a loss to understand why.

Outside of public radio, which I don't count for a variety of reasons, liberal talk does not succeed. IMHO it is because in general the liberal mindset is more about political positions, and the conservative side is more about political ideas. As the previous poster stated, if you know your positions and the host agrees with them, why listen?

There's a guy on MSNBC, Steve Karnacki (sp?), whom I find quite intelligent, and obviously liberal, who digs down into the meat of a topic, rather than just shooting off his mouth. I'd love to hear him on the radio... he does great interviews and reports news, not just political strategery.

OTOH, I probably agree with Hannity on 90% of issues, but I can't listen to him.

Ultimately, it's the ability to inform, entertain and enlighten. Again JMHO.

Sandy still didn't mention anything today. She will be back tomorrow "same Bat-time, same Bat-channel".

Renegade Radio will be bumping Savage from 3-6 and will air a live show. Their wack pack will probably be calling in to lament the show's passing.

I heard that too. I wonder if she meant bats in the belfry channel.

And she'll probably wait til 2:55 to say something! I wish she'd just tell us and get it over with, I'm soooo hoping she's either staying with MEX or has another gig. I hope it's not one of these things where we have to follow her on twitter or FB for the >>big announcement<<! She's so good at what she does I hope she pops up somewhere. RR's fan club was calling in today to tell them how terrific they are and how WMEX is crazy to let them go and how they carry the whole station. Makes me wonder about some of these callers.

You have to ask? Look at K00000nah. Today he was whining his Wikipedia page is being 'hacked' and wanted some 'cyberexperts in the audience' to 'track it down'.

There will always be a low-brow listening base. Consider "Bubba The Love Sponge" is higher on the top 100 talker's list than K0000nah.

"After Hours" Di Mac, Joey Carroll and Dave Shigoury doing the final show tonite as opposed to tomorrow nite. Follow them on FB to find out where they'll be next! Hmmmm.

We're going national bayyyyyyyyyyyyyy bee! Yes we are! I just read kooooooooooooona's wiki page, a lot of the radio info is wrong, mainly how he started on RKO and the hours he started with, all wrong.

The only way "new owners" could take over so fast is if they "rent" the station, starting at a time that they also sign an "APA" (Asset Purchase Agreement), where the APA and the FCC Form 314 (transfer) would be filed together at a later time; a week later, a month later, etc. Before actual renting, the rental agreement must be submitted to the FCC, and placed in the station's Public File. This is how the "new owners" can program the station before the sale. - As to how long any station can remain silent, it can do so for 10 or 15 days (I forget which) without notifying the FCC. Once that amount of days is almost up, in order to STAY silent, a $190.-fee application must be made to the FCC requesting "Silent authority", which is good for 6 months. Such can be renewed for another 6 months, but there's a danger there. If off for more than 365 days consecutively, the license disappears. - I don't know who the new owners are... all I know is that it's not me! I do have a good guess, but I don't like to start rumors.

Yeah, they're changing their callsign to WOFF.

Obviously Kuhner has no idea how Wikipedia works. Since I am the author of the radio career section of his Wikipedia entry, I wonder if I should be contacting my lawyer in anticipation of a libel suit.

Tim Constantine ended his show today by thanking the listeners in Boston at WMEX. I wonder how many other affiliates he has. Too bad, he had an interesting show.

Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed Tim's show. Looks like Savage may be done as well because RR is going to be on again today from 3 - 6 usually a Savage live spot, I wonder who will be on from 6-9 tonite, unless that will be a replay of the earlier Savage show or a repeat of Constantine's show? "Sandy" is still not addressing the issue, I'm guessing she's going to wait until the last 10 minutes of the show. RR was actually funny at times this morning, they kept playing clips of the screamer in the background. I'm wondering if the callers have been directed not to ask about the transition, she's taken a couple of calls so far and none of them have made a peep about the issue and one in particular is a regular caller to RR and to "Sandy's" show.

This morning a caller made a rather caustic remark about RR playing the screamer's clips; they just laughed. I wonder how the animosity got started?

The cackling screaming mimi would blame RR for everything that happened at the station and instead of approaching them in person she would call them names on air and send them ridiculous emails. RR was saying this morning that there were numerous times they were brought into a meeting and were reprimanded for things that went on at the station. I don't know if they were responsible or not, but, she was wrong to start the name calling on air, she used to air her dirty laundry all the time....I never listened to her but the reason I know this is because the next morning RR listeners would start calling/texting them telling them what the cackler said about them the day before and RR's producer would play the audio from her show to prove it. She was constantly reprimanding and making fun of her "crew" on air, she thought it was "good radio" but she came across as petty and arrogant. RR pointed out this morning that "some" people (her) are selfish and only thought of themselves and they make it clear it was her by highly praising "Sandy" Shack - "Sandy" gave them advice etc unlike other people who were only "in it for themselves". It's 2:15 and "Sandy" has not said a word, has not even hinted about what's going on...at the top of the hour she mentioned something about getting to other issues before the show is over and I thought oh good, here it comes, but no, she wants to talk about fake news and immigration.....45 minutes to go!

I'm sure this was all an inside joke....and good natured.

I have heard her mention (on and off air to others) how nice everyone is at the station, and the people at the station couldn't be nicer, more understanding and supportive.

I think the "AM drive" vs "PM drive" rivalry is all for show.
