It had been using the ME-TV FM feed during late nights and weekends. Is WMEX using a new service or in-house programming? Some syndicated services give you the option of a white label service while they supply their music.
And I wouldn't be quick to think listening on a Sunday would necessarily mean the station's overall format is different.

Isn't the 50's thru 80's already well covered by WJIB? Maybe, the competition was too much.
This was just posted on the WMEX website. The change must have happened today. Sounds like in house with all new liners and station ID.
WJIB is a trip to listen to! I've been listening, and they went from a 1945 Eddy Arnold song to Dan Hartman's "I Can Dream About You", and they are commercial free. Wow, I think I found a new listen.
What's the point of making an announcement like that? All it does is draw attention to a format change that's sure to anger the current audience. They posted it on their Facebook page too, which is presumably followed mainly by listeners who liked the old format. What a bizarre management decision.
WJIB is awesome. I have it on all time especially since the 5kw upgrade. I put an AM Stereo tuner in my truck to get it in all its glory. Even the night signal is decent and gets out about like WJIB on its old day time power level.
At home I do use the stream since I'm in a very fringe part of the signal.
WMEX was more rock leaning vs WJIB more soft rock/easy listening. I think there was room for WMEX to keep late 50's and 60's rock in rotation. Seems like a strange move to drop the 60's. Now they are more competing with WROR vs having their own niche.
Not sure what transmitter WMEX is running but if they have a Nautel with the magic c-quam capability they should enable that function. Yeah, I know there aren't many tuners around but John G. at WJIB thought there were enough to justify keeping it and putting the time in tweak the processing (at one point he said he was surprised at how many people were listening in AM Stereo).
From what I see online WMEX has made no personnel changes and will have the same jocks on air.

Totally agree about WJIB. It iis a true "you never know what will be played next" experience. The hits, and lots of OH, WOW's.
Per one of John G.'s announcements, if you mail him a self addressed stamped envelope, he'll send you a WJIB bumper sticker. Am sending one as soon as I can find some stamps!
Late nights are even more interesting. I believe John G. refers to it as 'The All Night Serenade', or 'Nightlight'. Anyhow, its a lot B/EZ instrumentals and Big Band type stuff mixed with vocals (even heard 3 Doors Down as one of them!). Possibly a tribute to Bob Bittner?
Read between the lines and you'll see that the dual messages they're sending their Baby Boomer listeners are "You're too old to suit our advertisers" and "We can't make enough money to survive by playing songs that are at least 57 years old." In other words, there's no turning back, so get over it.
I haven’t heard Larry Justice on this week with the new format. I’ve heard morning DJ Russ extending until noon, followed by late afternoon DJ Ben starting at noon. Also, far fewer live DJ breaks per hour.
Larry is still on the revamped website.
I haven't listened in a while but do they have any advertisers? Most listeners who would be interested in music from the 50's and 60' would be at least 70 years old that is a tough demo to sell to advertisers. I always thought the station was more of a vanity project for Larry Justice rather than a business that had to turn a profit
It looks like WMEX is now a subscriber to Nielsen. They posted a tiny 0.3 share in the 6+ numbers. The updated music is probably necessary in order to survive.
The Friday 2pm weekly specialty show hosted by co-owner Tony LaGreca, "Uncle Tony's Influential Italian Music Hour" (oldies and pop standards all by Italian artists), is not on. Just a continuation of the new format. He also had been doing the "Friday Nifty Fifties Hour" at 3:30pm, I doubt that will be on.
Applaud them for bringing programming in house 24/7, but I don't know if the updated music library is going to go over well. I'm sure it'll bring sales in the corporate stations doing the same thing can't.
The station has been sold (pending FCC approval) and Larry Justice will no longer have an ownership stake. The station is already operating under an LMA and Larry has been relieved of midday duties. He was the one listenable jock on the station IMHO.

apparently larry had no ratings in some numbers recently released, and one thing ive heard several times from people who looked at this from a business perspective the music was all over the place and there werent alot of ads on the station.
also very telling is this detail, "Tyler Nye’s Local Media Boston will acquire WMEX and its translator 101.1 W266DQ Weymouth MA from Tony LaGreca and Larry Justice’s L&J Radio for $1 and the assumption of all debt. LaGreca will hold a 45% stake in the new company as a silent partner"

To be 86 years old AND in debt. Not good. At least the sale allows Larry to be free of debt regarding the radio station.
