Are they looking to hire a PD/MD there in 2006? I thought Lou Valentino was the PD/MD is she staying? Don't live in the market, what's the scoop, past, future..etc.......is it worth to send a package?

Ick????????

Yeah, who wants to beat the mega-companies with their BRAINS? Much more to fun to be the monopoly crushing anyone who gets in the way! Nothing more exciting than solving problems by throwing money at them!

Sorry, you just got the competitive juices going, that's all.

WMEZ has a lot going for it. Well established. Not much direct competition--giving it some (adjacent demo) market share to gobble up. Though it's a mature property, it still has room to grow. Taking it to the next level could be a career-maker for a sharp programmer.

But, yeah, you'd have to be someone with vision... and fire in your belly. Not many of them around.

(1)"Though it's a mature property, it still has room to grow".

HOW brother? Their tower got damaged from KATRINA and you can't even get then a mile down the road from the studio's, from what I understand it's gonna take at least 6 months before that is even fixed. Same goes for the sister station WXBM.

(2)"Taking it to the next level could be a career-maker for a sharp programmer".

Um Yea, hate to ruin your 'juicy flow', if you recall they HAD 2 very sharp programmers; Kevin Peterson ,then Annie Sommers..both jetting outta there. From what I understand both knew better then to stay with an inexperienced GM & Market Mgr. Valentino probably sees the great track record and said, thanks but no thanks, can't blame her. Iwould hold off "Doubleraft" on that company.

(3)But, yeah, you'd have to be someone with vision... and fire

Refer to my last answer

(4)"Not many of them around."

Total persons quit from there in the last year and a half? = 21, but go ahead by all means send your stuff if ya like. (Sorry NOW MY MANLY JUICES ARE FLOWING)

Half empty?

Alright, alright--sounds like a mess. I worked at WMEZ for Kevin years ago, but have been away from the market for awhile.

Inexperienced management is one thing. Are these people complete A-holes?

But you'll have to pardon me on one count. I've made an outlandish living taking f--ked up radio stations and making 'em cook. Stepping into a well-oiled machine and just maintaining what the previous guy created bores the hell out of me--and they tend not to pay you anything for doing it.

I don't know Valentino. That may not be her cup of tea, or yours. Some people look at problems and see opportunities. Others just see problems.

Re: Half empty?

WMEZ lost it edge when it went more mainstream, instead of staying a soft AC.
The market already had a soft rock station. In the old days the station was ranked in the top 5 12+...which was amazing. Should of stuck with the old formula, and got more sales people to sell it, old owners would not do remotes, that alone would of increased revenue. Every office and business in town had the old MEZ tuned in. Moral of the story...if it ain't broke don't fix it.:)

In the Top 5, now!

WMEZ is in the Top 5 (12+) right now, so I guess the current format is amazing, too. The problem with the previous incarnation--as with all EZ stations--wasn't 12-plus, an unsellable demo (because it was really 55+); the problem was 25-54. And when MEZ shifted (1997?) they suddenly became very competitive in 25-54 and related female demos. Much more sellable. As I recall, they doubled the billing within a couple of years (yeah, a 100% increase). Moral of the story... it needed fixed.

Pcola

You are right, to a point. We can see opportunity but one cannot "will" a station to success if those at the top (ownership, GM) do not give the Programmers and Sales forces the tools and resources to win. Intentions are fine but we both know of countless situations where MOST of the right ingredients are in place but you can never get over the hump if those ultimately in charge don't share that vision.
