WMFP/Boston for Sale

I wonder who would buy this station and how could they compete with the boston tv stations or does it go spanish, religious or home shopping only time will tell

Weigel would be great but they seem to be just a Midwest owner. Doesn't the Boston market have enought Spanish/Religious stations? (27.1, 27.2, 48.1, 66.1)

RTV has been good, MeTV and AntennaTV would be great. Their classic programming is a complement to the 4 network stuff.

If Spanish and religion are the only alternatives for 62...let the station go dark.

It would be lousy if WMFP were to be sold to some religious or foreign language group. The market is already saturated with the type of stations listed above. I've been really enjoying RTV since their debut about two years ago. Had WMFP had a local sales presence and actually went out to sell some ads or to had another station in the market sell the local spots for 62.1 and 62.2, it could have made somewhat of a difference. The station DOES have excellent cable and satellite coverage, as well as one of the most powerful DTV signals in the market (1,000,000 watts ERP on RF Channel 18). The Boston market has needed a classic TV station for a long time. RTV is pretty good. Let's hope something positive will come out of any potential sale.

That's the lousy thing about Classic TV stations, once you really get into the programming, something ALWAYS goes awry (just like WHUB, WHLL, WSMW, WQTV, WABU.......). Who knows?

I'm surprised to hear that WMFP still carries RTV. Sister-station WSAH in CT/NYC dropped RTV last fall after only 2 months on the air.

From what I've heard, the reason why WMFP still carries RTV is that there is a binding long-term contract with Luken (RTV parent company). Later when WSAH signed on to RTV, after WMFP showed so-so results in the beginning, it was a short term (possibly a 30 day notice). RTV lasted on WSAH for less than 2 months. Then back to "dollar-a-holler". The RTV affilation in NYC is now on low-power WKOB-LP (formerly known as TV translator W53AA for WCBS-TV, Channel 2 during the building of the WTC). I believe they are now running digital with a very limited coverage in Manhattan. However, WKOB does have cable and satellite coverage.

Exactly, and RTV is getting what it paid for in WKOB

Are you sure WKOB has cable/satellite carriage? I don't believe that's true. I live in the NYC area and I know Verizon and Directv don't carry WKOB, nor have I ever seen it on a Comcast, Time Warner or Cablevision channel lineup. I'm sure they all carry the national Daystar feed, but that's not WKOB per se.
