WMFP Sold

Ted Bartley of NRJ VENTURES LLC a texas company is the new owner he's described as a long time broadcast lender he has no other broadcast interests.
 
I think they should also make better use of some of their subchannels. As of right now, 62.2 is exactly the same as 62.1, only with a dimmer image. Kind of pointless.

The 62.2 subchannel acts like an STL link (or shall I say, TSL) to downtown Boston. I believe their RTV satellite receiver is at WMFP's transmitter site in Newton. It makes sense (I guess....). I'm sure intermod in the downtown areas of Boston is an issue. The reason why it seems somewhat dimmer than the main channel is probably to provide some "headroom" (with both audio and video). I'm sure they are still using some analog components in their "chain" to tweak it at times at the main studio, downtown. Just a hunch. :)

So... They are using a transmitted signal so that they can feed a picture to a transmitter?

That's like using soda to clean up a soda spill... ???

Interesting analogy, but yes....you could say that. It is an unusual way of getting things done, but they must provide a master control from the main studio. And since intermod downtown is an issue at times, this is one way way to deal with it. It is an interesting loop set up, but somehow it works. :)
 
WMFP receives the RTV feed from the roof dish at Master control in Boston then it is sent via TV1 line to the transmitter site in Newton. That's the way it was setup when I visited a friend when she worked in MC a few years ago.

I got the impression (from another engineer) that due to some interference issues (intermod) that they were using the 62.2 as a TSL from Newton to Downtown. Maybe that was a temporary fix until a more permanent setup could be made two years ago. What kind of dish is WMFP using to receive RTV, an 18" or a full sized C-Band? Thanks.
