WMGF

Anybody notice how much WMGF playlist have improved? Their playlist are no longer sync with Premium Choice which is something that some CC stations across the nation sync their playlist with today. Their playlist were sync with Premium Choice 24/7 last year after they dropped Delilah Show and John Tesh Radio Show and changed up their line-ups in Fall 2010. They really sound uptempo with the uptempo songs that are included in the Premium Choice playlist last year.

Around fall last year before Christmas, it looks like they dropped Premium Choice completely and went back to local programming. Though they have no Delilah Show nor John Tesh Radio Show, but their playlist really sound good throughout the days and nights.

It looks like they're doing 1-3 70s per hour, a lot of 70s for 2012. We're already 2 years into the new decade and a few AC's out there have eliminated 70s altogether.

They still play some really uptempo stuffs that other AC's today play as well like Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling", Bon Jovi's "Livin' On A Prayer", Journey's "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)", Boston's "More Than A Feeling", Lady Gaga's "The Edge Of Glory", Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away", Pink's "Perfect", Shannon's "Let The Music Play", etc. and it's actually part of their own playlist rather than being sync with any playlist out there.

But, wait a minute, they're even playing a lot softer 70s, 80s, and 90s hits that not many AC's are playing today. They're playing stuffs like Air Supply's "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All", Breathe's "Hands To Heaven", Chicago's "If You Leave Me Now", "Baby, What A Big Surprise", and "Hard Habit To Break", John Lennon's "Imagine" and "Woman", Loggins & Messina's "Danny's Song", The Bee Gees' "How Deep Is Your Love" and "Too Much Heaven", Patty Smyth's "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough (w/ Don Henley)", Celine Dion's "The Power Of Love", "If You Asked Me To", and "Where Does My Heart Beat Now", Jack Wagner's "All I Need", Phil Collins' "A Groovy Kind Of Love" and "You'll Be In My Heart", Elton John's "Your Song", "Daniel", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Bennie And The Jets", and "Rocket Man", Michael Bolton's "When A Man Loves A Woman", James Taylor's "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" and "You've Got A Friend", Billy Joel's "Honesty", .38 Special's "Second Chance", Robert Palmer's "Mercy Mercy Me/I Want You", Selena's "Dreaming Of You" and "I Could Fall In Love", Harry Chapin's "Cat's In The Craddle", Andy Gibb's "I Just Want To Be Your Everything", Samantha Sang "Emotion (w/ Barry Gibb), Vanessa Williams' "Save The Best For Last".

Here's a sample playlist of WMGF on 4/1/12 between 12:01 - 2:58 AM from yes.com (with the details edited out)(yes.com is pretty buggy at the moment, but it looks like all the songs are logged):

Wow! I couldn't imagine an AC station would sound like this in 2012! ;D

Y'all better be glad to have WMGF sound like this, y'all wouldn't want your local AC station to sound like it's sister AC WLIT in Chicago at all, don't y'all?

I just wish the station would get some imaging. Yeah, it's nice to hear lots of jock talk (granted, I'm sure 95% of it is VT), but when they are doing a mini stopset between every song, it just gets a little tiring.

I strongly agree with you! The mini stopset between every song gets really annoying afterwards. The station ID's (including the top-hour ID) are very boring. They should add some real jingles to their ID's and their top-hour ID.

Overall, their playlist is very decent if you compare their playlist with other AC stations in other cities across the nation. Their playlist do include some really upbeat songs, but their playlist is still pretty decent with a lot of softer songs. Their playlist is locally programmed 24/7 now. Their playlist isn't synced with any program at all even though they're mostly voice tracked.

I know WMGF still sounds terrible with their voice tracking and boring jingles, but their playlist itself is very decent. I'm sure WMGF can do better in numbers if they add some live personalities and add some jingles.

I would put WMGF as CC's 3rd best AC station in the nation compare to KSNE/Las Vegas and KOST/LA (based-on their playlist recently though).

Still a lot of old, tired songs here............
Huh? I don't get it. Are you saying they're too sleepy and they should sound a lot more upbeat like WLIT/Chicago and WLTW/NY? ???

Most of the A/C world would say yes to that question. Fresher and more upbeat is where the format is headed right now.

Yes, and WMGF is actually up to it even though their playlist is no longer synced with Clear Channel's Premium Choice. WMGF's actually playing the upbeat songs at their own discretion. They're throwing a lot of fresher and more upbeat music into their playlist while they're still playing a lot of softer songs as well.

I really like how WMGF is mixing a lot of old and new and soft and upbeat songs into their playlist. I really like their mix, it's very impressive. I guess WMGF has nailed their programming. Even without a syndicated Delilah show and/or John Tesh radio show, their programming really takes off. Heck, their playlist is even much better than the playlist that is provided by the Delilah's show.

The only thing WMGF really need to work on is how they promote their station by removing those mini stopset between every songs, adding some live personalities (though they have don't to, I believe they can keep the voice tracking throughout the day), and add some real jingles to their ID's and their top of the hour ID.

Adult Contemporary is NOT top 40..... they ALWAYS forget that!

WMGF got themselves up to the 4th place with a 6.1 market share in April 2012 in the 12+ PPM numbers.

Their playlist keeps on getting better and better. Now, it's time for them to get some live personalities. At least Cheap Channel aren't so cheap to where they have WMGF's playlist synced with Premium Choice 24/7 like they did before, but they're still cheap enough to have WMGF voice-tracked 24/7. WMGF needs to get some live personalities like WOCL did!

As long as it's a Clear Channel station, there will be no live personalities outside of AM and PM drive. If heritage XL is VT'd as soon as Johnny Magic is done for the day, they sure as heck aren't going to put live jocks on Magic.

Heck, they don't even care that Jana does middays on both XL and Magic now!

You're right about that. Plus, CC is cost-cutting to pay-off their $22 million debt.

Are you sure it's $22-million and not $22-billion? Clear Channel has paid more than $22-million to acquire a single station. The company was over $19-billion in debt before Bain Capital Partners made an equity investment in the company resulting in a massive radio station "sell-off" which also resulted in a repositioning of some stations into the Aloha Station Trust to comply with the new FCC ownership caps.

Oh yeah! It was $22 billion in debt... No! Actually it was $20 billion in debt. Whoops! I got my units mixed-up and my numbers mixed-up as well.

And Lehos, you are probably right about this. CC is probably gonna to have another round of layoffs in July, so CC is less likely to hire live jocks for Magic or XL outside of AM or PM drive. They may even layoff live personalities of AM and PM drive on Magic and XL leaving both stations voice-tracked 100%.

Let's hope CC doesn't run Premium Choice on Magic again. Magic's playlist is really decent now.
