WMGI Terre Haute

It seems as though this station has taken a step or two backwards since it was purchased by Midwest in 2005. A couple years ago I remember it sounding like one of the best CHR's around. Now, it seems as though they are lacking that exciting, upbeat sound that most CHR stations are known to have. Maybe it's the lack of competition or the need for more experienced on-air talent that's holding them back. The jingles are good, but the VO sounds very amateur, possibly even in-house. Some minor adjustments would drastically improve the overall sound of Mix.

Question: Is 100.7 Terre Haute's only pop music choice?

100.7 is the only choice for CHR in the Valley. There is the ISU station for a more alt-rock sound.

Summary of commercial stations:
3 country (Hi 99, Crock, and Win 98.5)
2 oldies (104.9 and 95.9 the Valley)
1 AC (WBOW-FM)
1 CHR (WMGI)
2 Rock (105.5 River, WISU)

And yes, looking at the Arbs, WMGI is failing. I know they have been playing musical airstaff for the last couple years. I'm not sure if they have a production director either.

WPFR-FM is still doing religion and is non-commercial so it doesn't show up in the books. To the best of my knowledge, WPFR and WPRF-FM are simulcast partners.

Which Terre Haute station is the former WPFR-FM and how's it doing?

I think WBOW-FM is the station operating on the original WPFR frequency at 102.7. B102.7 is their moniker. As to how they are doing? Someone else needs to answer that.

If that is the station, WBOW-FM is now running an AC format. They have jocks during the day, but evenings seem to be automated. Last time I listened, I was getting my hair cut and had to wait a while. The :55 commercial break lasted forever, but I don't recall another break while I was there.

Doing decent in the ratings, but perhaps not as well as you'd expect for the only AC in town.

WMGI has been down in the ratings, HOWEVER, Since the return of Rich O'Brien, I feel that they are heading in the right direction. Time will tell. Midwest does things that leave a person wondering. They got rid of Matt Luecking awhile back... and that left me scratching my head.

I long for a return to the days of Beau Richards.

As far as 100.7 being the Haute's only pop choice, the answer is No. WCBH Casey, IL is a top 40 dance/chr station. Although, Mix Fm sounds 500 times better imho!

If anybody can get it lined out Rich O'Brien is the guy. Life is treating me well at Suncoast as the store manager in Terre Haute, I am celebrating my 11 year radio anniversary at WZPL Sunday from Noon-5pm. Love to hear from old friends.

How's the WCBH signal over TH? I've never knwon the station existed until now.

The next book will be interesting, especially for WBOW's evenings from 7pm to 12a. with the running of The Cooper Lawrence show, which is mostly talk. Kind of a bold move.

104.3 WCBH's signal isn't too bad in the Haute.

Does WPFR-FM serve as a repeater for WBGL Champaign/Urbana?

[EDIT]

Hi-99 continues to kisk ass... MixFm is doing much better, and the Crossroads stations... um hmmm.....

104.3 Signal is pretty good, until you get downtown by the Hi-99 Tower, then you lose about everything except Hi-99, B-1027, and Mix. It drives me nuts.

Driving thru last night, on the way back from CHI-town to E'ville.... Hi-99 sounding dominate and strong.. 100.7 is not the station it was...Bad processing..Too soft for CHR and the balance was way off to one side.. River (Rock 105.5) was standard and 104.3 was pumpin' a chur-bn sound into town.. B-102.7's new moniker seemed hipper than in the past and seemed more focused as an adult CHR/Hot-AC... I was impressed by the new elements and flow, but on the way to CHI on Saturday, the talent was sub-par...They need to put a face on the station and HIT THE STREETS... 95.9 boring, 104.9 standard oldies of the day in syndication and 92.7 THE CROCK, is what it says it is.... The Catholic Programming on 'PFR-FM/AM was traditional and might want to tap into "The Relevant Network" that is very impressive to a Catholic audience.. (Heard it's feed in the west burbs of CHI on 930am...IMPRESSED!)....I have format for Mike at Crossroads, if he dare.. But I won't share it here.. He'll have to call....Especially on 92.7...
