WMGM-FM signal questions

1) Why does WMGM (50Kw @ 106m) have to be directional to protect WKTU, while WFPG is slightly more powerful (50Kw @ 110m) and does not have to protect WQHT?

2) Since WKTU moved north from the WTC to ESB, couldn't WMGM do away with the directional pattern?

3) Why doesn't WMGM have to protect co-channel Class B WXCY which is just 90 miles away?

MGM doesn't protect KTU, it protects co-channel NNJ in Sussex County.

I believe MGM and XCY had a mutual interference agreement back in the 70's that allowed each to improve to 50 KW towards each other even though the interference standards were exceeded. The FCC used to allow them at that time.

Hmmm, your right. Not sure why. 30 is even east of KTU, out on Long Island or Connecticut somewhere. I'll check when I get a chance.

My understanding is the null was to protect 1st adjacent 103.9 in Jenkintown. Mr. Green and WXCY received a waiver from the FCC for acceptance of mutual acceptable interference to each receive power increases. Tom Mc knows the details.

I have a feeling the info in the FCC database for WMGM is incorrect.

The null should be down to 20 Kw in the direction of Newton, NJ.
When we took the station from 20 Kw non-direction to 50 Kw
directional, we had the agreement with Havre de Grace, MD - but
couldn't come to an agreement with Newton, who was only at
5,000 watts back then, due to Lake Success.

Remember that all this happened in the mid-80's before the
FCC was computerized to any major degree, so I really
think something is wrong in the database.

There is no issue with 103.9 in Jenkintown.
