Miami/Fort Lauderdale WMIA Magic 93.9 Ties WFEZ Miami and Hits #1 25-54

WMIA-FM continues to see success with its mix of English and Spanish language AC. First, it ties Soft AC WFEZ 93.1 in the Holiday ratings. Both stations rank at #4. It seems WMIA-FM has stolen some of WFEZ's listeners as well as some of its playlist.

Second, Radio Insight says WMIA-FM, owned by iHeart, has risen to #1 in the 25-54 demo.

iHeart is simulcasting (with local commercials) WMIA-FM Magic 93.9 on its Fort Myers station, 100.1 WZJZ. It is also adding Magic formatted Eng./Span. AC to HD Radio subchannels in a number of cities including Tampa and Orlando. (Remember to add the -FM suffix to WMIA 93.9 Miami. There's also an AM 1070 WMIA in Puerto Rico.)

Kudos to iHM. Their market research in this instance was clearly on target. 93.9 finally has a format that appears to be a winner.

Calm down, WZJZ is new to a market that has been long dominated by one Spanish-language radio station for years. It'll take some time as Fort Myers isn't the exact same as Miami.

The "research" was Pedro Javier González' years of experience with WFID in Puerto Rico... a nearly identical format.

Calm down, WZJZ is new to a market that has been long dominated by one Spanish-language radio station for years. It'll take some time as Fort Myers isn't the exact same as Miami.

In particular, it does not have the political refugee community of middle and higher income listeners who would have listened to a similar format back in Venezuela or Colombia or Nicaragua or whatever.
