WMID

I have made posts in the past, how great WMID sounds, since there signon over a year ago. The nice ratings bump proved this. Its the blend of oldies, not the personalities, givaways, or big named jocks. WMID does it with just the featured female voice. No title, no artist, just the "oh wow" music, which drives the station. It is the kind of format that you never know whats coming on next, and that is what makes it great to listen to, not the predictable PEN/OGL/JRZ/TKU playlist. That is why PEN sunk, although they had a few strong personalities, the music was the same we have been hearing for ages. When PEN was playing the tired out Philly sound, MID was on to "ALL" the great music that was out back in the day, not the usual Philly flow. I said it time and time again, if PEN had the MID playlist they would still be around today, and that is without any jocks or phoney contests. I will not quote any tunes that MID plays vs. Philly sounding PEN/OGL, to avoid being flamed, if you just tune them in, you will understand, if you are open minded to great music, no matter who the artist is and not only Philly-sound oriented tunes.

Re: WMID/WOGL from a statistical point of view.

Out-of-market WOGL got a 0.6 in Atlantic City.

Atlantic City has IN-MARKET:
WTKU
WILW
WMID
all doing IN-MARKET Oldies.

It' very significant that an Oldies station from 60 miles away can still pull a 0.6 when it's competing with THREE IN-MARKET Oldies stations.

---------------------------------

WOGL is 6th overall in Philadelphia and 6th overall in Wilmington.

-------------------------------------------------

WOGL also pulled a 0.6 in Lancaster, one of only SIX Philly FMs to show in the book. Lancaster is home to full powered Oldies outlet WSOX.

-----------------------------------

WOGL pulled a 0.4 in Allentown. Allentown has an in-market Oldies station (WKAP).

-----------------------------------

WOGL must be doing something right to be #6 in Philly, #6 in Wilmington and to show up in distant markets that have thier OWN Oldies stations.

------------------------------------

The Atlantic City Oldies stations must be doing something wrong since there are THREE IN-MARKET Oldies stations and WOGL-FM still shows up!

I like to know what they play. Quick sample of the playlist would be fine.

Re: WMID/WOGL from a statistical point of view.

Its called "Sampleing", OGL has a strong enough (almost city grade) signal to reach these spots, so naturally people who like oldies will try them out. There is not one oldies station that makes it in the city of Philadelphia, (not counting WVLT which is not 100% oldies), WVLT is very spotty in many sections to boot. If you can remember, when WNJO was oldies they had a strong enough signal to reach the city, they also pulled a 1.5+ and took some of OGL's audiance, check the ratings a few years back. Wilmington has no oldies station, so OGL wins by default, when QSR was on the stronger 105.7, OGL never showed up in Wilmington. If WMID had a city grade signal in the Philadelphia metro, I would guarantee they would receive ratings. Remember too, listeners are still in love with FM-Stereo, so they might listen to OGL in Stereo than WMID in AM-mono, even though WMID puts them to shame music wise. At night WMID barely makes it to the Farley toll plaza on the Xway, whereas OGL is booming. Its not a fair assumption to compare these two stations, power and clarity wise, you cannot compare a small local AM to a full powered FM Stereo signal.

How do you account for WOGL's ratings in Atlantic City, where WMID is a local and WTKU & WILW are on FM from in-market.

Re: WMID/WOGL from a statistical point of view.

"Atlantic City" as far as Arbitron goes - is
from Hammonton East ... you can't hear any
of the 3 locals in Hammonton or Egg Harbor,
and barely in Mays Landing. One of them
barely makes it to Atlantic County at all.
Keep in mind, the average listener is not
a 40 dBu/.1 mV DXer.

Re: WMID/WOGL from a statistical point of view.

Same answer to your issues w/ NYC stations showing up in Monmouth-Ocean.

Lots of people from Atlantic County, especially the western part, commute to Philly or the adjacent NJ counties, where they cannot listen to their local stations but do listen, for long periods, to Philly stations.
