WMJI WIXY Reunion Weekend???

As is WLS and WABC this Memorial Weekend, WMJI should've done a "WIXY Reunion Weekend". I don't believe there's been one since 1997.

I think they've done a few over the years but can't remember when the last one might have been. Given the more 70's centric playlist maybe it's time to do a "Big 1220" reunion weekend.

1997 was the last one. I was there. Co-produced the imaging and ran the board for Scott Howitt and Jack Armstrong who were on remote at Berea Fairgrounds for GhoulardiFest. I have the aircheck.

Yes, I remember that.

WIXY's Jack Armstrong, Mike Reneri, Jim LabBarbara, Chuck Knapp, and Lou "King" Kirby joining Scott Howitt and Billy Bass (himself an ex-WIXY jock) broadcasting live from Ghoulardifest (celebrating the legacy of local legend Ernie "Ghoulardi" Anderson).

Wow. Talk about being completely plugged into a city!

I believe that this was the era when they had their highest ratings, and it is no wonder.

BTW, I tuned in to MJI a bit today. Some voicetracked person repeating empty station slogans pre-recorded who-knows-when from who-knows where. Station overall cume is down about 60,000 people since they gutted the station and turned it into just another McDonald's.

Does anybody have any more tapes of the 1997 WIXY reunion on MJI? I heard some, but there must be more.

1997 wasn't the highest ratings. WMJI was just starting to climb and dominate the market overall.

1998 WMJI won the R&R Large Market Station Award - that's all formats, not just oldies.

L&M also won R&R award for Best Large Market talent.

And, 1998 marked the first year WMJI won a Marconi award. I believe WMJI has won 5 or 6 since.

1998 was a banner year. It began a 20+ ratings book run at #1 P25-54.

I posted the Howitt-Armstrong 'check on my ftp and sent to WIXY webmaster Ray Glasser. No word from him on whether he grabbed it.

I have a few 1997 WIXY/WMJI airchecks on www.reelradio.com as well. I think there's a nominal yearly fee for the site these days. Worth every penny.
