WMJQ calls set free again

Haven't had a chance yet to see whether they're using them on air yet or not, but the K-Love folks have changed calls on WMJQ (104.9 Brockport), which becomes WKUV.

So...

1. Will these heritage calls get picked up by anyone else in either Rochester or Buffalo?

2. How many years will elapse before the Democrat and Chronicle changes its radio listings accordingly? (I can't recall whether the switch from 105.5 to 104.9, which happened last summer, has made the page yet.)

Update: Still using the WMJQ calls, at 6:58 PM. I listen to this stuff so all of you don't have to...

Well, Citadel has a history of picking up "old" Rochester call letters. WBBF is parked on a daytimer on 1120 in Buffalo... maybe they'll pick up WMJQ and put them on WHLD, their other AM station.

Not likely.

Then again, maybe E'com, realizing the mistake they made when they gave up the call letters when they switched 102.5 to WTSS, will get them back and park them on 1400. "Magic 1400" sounds a heckuva lot better than AM 1400, even better than W-W-W-S 1400 (that would be double-u, double-u, double-u, ess; not douba-u, douba-u, douba-u, ess) and WMJQ works with the solid gold soul format that's on AM 1400.

Let's not forget the history the calls have in Rochester, too, where they graced 92.5 from 1977-1987. Maybe E'com will grab them and put them on 950 when they look to the west, notice how well WWWS does with its solid gold soul, even against urban giant WBLK, and give it a shot in Rochester. (Not that the WMJQ calls have any particular resonance with that audience - and perhaps not with ANY audience in Rochester at all anymore - but, well, it's quiet around here lately...)
______________

We suggested keeping the WMJQ calls back when Star became WTSS but the powers that were (and still are) showed no interest in parking them on 1400. IMHO WWWS are pretty lousy call letters-if for no other reason than the fact that few people say W (double-U)correctly anymore(and even fewer can coherently string 3 W's in a row) making it difficult to use the call letters in anything but a legal ID even if you wanted to.

Radio Listings..

I just checked the "so-called" radio guide this morning and there is no listing for any FM station on either 105.5 or 104.9 The closest is WIRQ at 104.7 and WJZR at 105.9

Now the good news is that finally the paper did combine WXXI-FM and WJSL in Houghton. Plus they dropped "jazz" as part of WXXI-AM's format. Now that only took several years.

Oh yeah, Howard Stern is no longer listed as the Nerve's morning host.

Still listening so you don't have to...

The calls flipped sometime over the weekend. I heard a WKUV ID last night. Now I can ignore 104.9 again until the next time something happens there...
______________
