WMJQ moves

No, not 92.5 of blessed memory, or 102.5 of, um, memory - but I did notice today that the Brockport FM that now bears those calls has made the move from 105.5 to a much more potent 104.9 signal.

(At least, I think it's Brockport - the legal ID I heard last hour was "KLOV, Winchester" :)

This is the first of two moves that George Kimble's doing in the region; the other will take WFLR-FM Dundee from 95.9 to 95.5, with a bit more juice.
______________

A few questions regarding the WMJQ move.
1). Does EMF have an option to buy the station from George Kimble? Or will he continue to lease WMJQ to the K-Love folks?

2). What of WIRQ and WNYL-LP? Is there any chance that either station could return to the air on another channel? Or are they both gone for good? Has either station filed with the FCC for a new frequency?

While I sympathize with both stations and the respective institutions which ran them, I especially feel sorry for WNYL, given that they are still fairly new to the air. But as they say, "those are the breaks."

I believe EMF's lease includes an option to buy, but I don't know for sure.

Neither station has filed yet, but they do have the opportunity to do so. WIRQ is working on some plans right now. Without a waiver from the FCC, each station can file a "minor change" application, which would allow them to move to any first-, second- or third-adjacent channel or to channels 10.6/10.8 MHz away.

I'm pretty sure the WMJQ application to move was filed before WNYL ever filed its first application. LPFMs are unprotected secondary services. They knew - or should have known - what they were getting into. (And they'll probably be able to shift channels and survive, anyway.)
______________

Isn't 104.9 Allocaton for Niagara Falls Ont. I thought 104.9 is reserved for 104.9 Class B Niagara Falls Ontario.

I think you're talking about CFLZ which is on 105.1. If they have applied to move to 104.9, then there will be quite a clash with WMJQ in many parts of western NY no doubt.

I check the FCC database for 104.9 and the allotment for that area belongs to Niagara Falls, Ontario

Things change.

Yes, there was once an allotment for 104.9B in Niagara Falls, but through a strange series of events, it went away in practice, if not in actual fact. (In a nutshell, the unprotected 91.9 CFLZ Niagara Falls moved to 105.1 when CHOW 1470 Welland moved to 91.7B, and then gradually ramped up power to the point where it's now a B1.)

In theory, there shouldn't have been approvals granted both for CFLZ's power increase on 105.1 and for WMJQ's move to 104.9, since the two become massively short-spaced, but thanks to some amusing delays in cross-border notification, each side approved its own move without being fully aware of what the other side was doing. It appears that the solution was simply to let the matter stand.

So, no, there will not be a 104.9B in Niagara Falls, barring some major changes in the future.
______________
