WMLC Monticello

I think so. I heard black gospel music on 1270 while driving near Monticello last week. I suspect they will keep it on the air long enough to keep the license alive, then file for another STA to take it silent.

The building was pretty nice for a small town AM when it was built in the 60's. I did a little engineering for James Clinton in the late 80's before he sold it. You could make a living with a small town AM then, but it was heading downhill not long after.

What became of 890 in Laurel? The last time I checked they were still streaming and I believe the translator was still on. 890 nearly gets into Jackson on a good day.
Also what is the deal with 970 in Brandon? It's been virtually a blank carrier with faint audio for a year. And before that they were silent for a year.
WPBQ 1240 has been sporadic with a very week signal since getting an FM translator. It used to have a decent sound when it was ESPN.
I've also noticed that Laurel's 1340 has moved to Collins with black gospel.
1220 in Hazelhurst has been off the air the last several times I driven through. My guess is that they pulled the plug since they have a tendency to do that when a station is bought out just for the FM sister's license.

yea, Pat....reminds me of what I understand Mr. Joel Netherland (wjns 92.1 Yazoo City) did before selling to Edward St Pe'
the story goes, the took the license of the am (15 something) & mailed it to the FCC and said "he didn't want it anymore"!

WYAZ-AM Yazoo City, Ms. Yep... Joel Netherland shut the AM down and turned the license in. There was already another AM in Yazoo City (WAZF) and WYAZ struggled from the time it first went on the air to the end.

890 in Laurel has had problems for a while. The owner has several stations that are all either off the air or struggling.
970 in Brandon - they could care less about it, as long as the translator stays on. That might change very soon.
1240 in Flowood has had technical issues for years. Nothing will change unless another owner gets it, which is unlikely.
1340 moved to Collins a few years ago. The city of Laurel needed the property for the old tower site, so the owner filed to move it to Collins and built a new tower site.
1220 in Hazelhurst has simulcast 92.9 for some time now, so I think they just keep it on long enough each time to keep the license active.
