WMMM-HD2 gone?

A recent article on RadioInsight (What Is Audacy’s Atlas? And Are Divestitures Coming? - RadioInsight) said Audacy plans to discontinue many of its HD2/HD3 stations.

While in the car this evening, I noticed WMMM-HD2 was not on the air, just HD1. WMMM has seemed to have a fair number of problems with their HD transmitter, so I'm not sure if this is just the most recent glitch with their HD setup or if "the Studio M Channel" is gone for good.

Audacy's WOLX-HD2 (Channel Q radio) was still on the air as of this evening.

That makes sense. WMMM HD2 always flopped between formats. I don't think it ever got high listenership. WOLX HD2 is another story. That is a very popular station (at least comparatively to other HD2 stations in the market).

I know you added the "at least comparatively" caveat, but still had to chuckle at "very popular." WOLX-HD2 has never shown up in the Madison 12+ ratings. WIBA-FM-HD2 has, but I'll grant that nearly all of that station's listening is via the translator on 100.9. It is possible for an HD2/3 to show up in the ratings, even without a translator: WERN-HD2 and HD3 have shown up in the ratings a few times over the past several years. WOLX-HD2? Not so far.

Anyway, I'm glad Channel Q is still there on WOLX-HD2, ratings or no.

Madison HD radio updates

I've had HD turned off in my car for weeks , but turned it on for a little while this evening to see what's changed. I found another Madison HD2 missing. WMAD-HD1 was on the air, but WMAD-HD2 -- iHeart's Coffee Shop Radio" was not.

Assuming this isn't a temporary outage, in the past year or so, we've lost: WXXM HD2 (iHeart wheel of formats) & HD3 (the Breeze), WMAD HD2 (Coffee House), and WMMM HD2 (Studio M).

We have, however, gained a couple HD stations, as well.

WSJY-HD2 went on the air a few months back, rebroadcasting the classic rock format heard on WFAW-AM and its two translators (96.1 & 101.1).

I'm not sure how long ago this happened as I am not a WNWC listener, but I also noticed a few months back that WNWC-FM had turned on HD and added WNWC-AM's programming as an HD2 channel. I imagine WNWC-AM's days are numbered now that they can feed their translator on 104.7 (which has better coverage in Madison than WNWC-AM) from WNWC-FM HD2.

On the bright side, WZEE-HD2's track info finally matches what's playing. For weeks after switching from classical to standards, the song data was still showing classical songs while Sinatra and friends played.
