WMMO Adult Hits???

I've always been stumped why WMMO has been classified as "Adult Hits"...everybody on Wikipedia (and quite a few on here) consider it to be adult hits...and I just don't get that vibe from 98.9! It certainly doesn't remind me of adult hits (actually, Mix 105.1 seems more adult hits to me). It sounds like a straight-on Rock AC. Jack, Bob, Joe, or whatever seems to play more modern stuff, more pop stuff, etc.

Sorry, just had a bone to pick. I have heard other similar-sounding Rock AC's that are NOT classified as Adult Hits.

I think the reason some have taken to lump it in with the current crop of "adult hits"/"variety hits" stations is that the basics of the original music rotation structure of WMMO (the format of WMMO from 1990-94) was studied and updated by the inventors of "Jack FM" to serve their needs, and I thank them for the honor. The character of WMMO inbetween the songs, however, is 180 degrees out of phase with most of the Jacks and Bobs of the world. Because it does cover musically similar ground today, it fills the "adult hits" space for Orlando. It was originally designed to speak to a different generation of listeners, those who had grown up with 70s album rock. You are correct in labeling it Rock AC.

This is true. I guess in terms of being a "broad-based rock format" it does fit the Adult Hits criteria.

The station it reminds me of is WRHQ in Savannah...then (according to CFLRadio) I found out that none other than Cary Pall himself is/was a consultant for that station! I'll be moving back to the Savannah/Hilton Head area soon and it will be nice to have another WMMO-type station there...which is kind of funny because when I left Savannah the first time WMMO reminded me of WRHQ. I got to meet Jerry Rogers at a remote up there and I found out he started radio in my stomping grounds of Lynchburg, Virginia.

Very nice job, Cary! Even only being a geeky radio guy in my 20's I really love both stations.

Thanks for the props, Radio-X. I appreciate it! Jerry deserves most of the credit for WRHQ, though. I just help him keep it on the rails.
