WMMO plays the wrong currents

Daughtry, Nickelback and Hoobastank just don't fit in with America and the Eagles. I doubt they'll ever be an even partial AAA again, but AAA artists like Bruce Springsteen (he has a new album you know), Coldplay, Amos Lee and the Decemberists would be a much better fit with the sound of the station.

If WMMO ever takes a turn for the worst, I'd be happy to make it MO better & MO relevent to the call letters. :D

Cox has started "AAA Lite" in a few markets. I think the one they did in San Antonio went bust in under a year...but the one up in my former stomping grounds of Richmond, VA (103.7 the River) is doing respectable. Best way I can describe it is one part top 40, one part 80's, one part alternative.

And the best part is they wouldn't have to change much. Instead of "soft rock and roll of yesterday and today, 98-9 WMMO" why not modernize the playlist by about 5 years, take out the 70's stuff, and add some Sublime, and you have "Orlando's quality rock, 98-9 WMMO"

Sorry, "rock 'n roll" is an outdated phrase. Actually, if you asked someone under 40 to play you some "rock 'n roll", they would play you some Elvis or Chubby Checker, NOT the Eagles and Nickelback. That's just "rock"

It is time for WMMO v 3.0!

Radio-X
(who was subjected to WMMO for about two years at the office. Got old after day 5)

You are the guys who insist on destroying well-performing, classic radio stations with current trash. The currents that WMMO plays are FINE. Plus, quality rock HAS NEVER DONE WELL, just because you lost 96rock doesn't mean WMMO has to replace it.

Hey wpb1999, you forgot "Cox" for one of your 4 c's.....ha ha. Btw, many of us miss 96 Rock and O-Rock 1059. 96 Rock is even gone from HD-2, thanks Cox.....

IT is"? what's in its place now ?
DBOFM is in stereo again too from what I'm hearing. It sounds as if the bumpers are stereo and that, I kno there's a pilot as I an far enugh enough away to hear a bit of static in stereo.

Right you are, I've been in extreme Hernando county this weekend and yes, there's a stereo pilot light on WDBO FM that wasn't on before , I didn't listen long enough for any bumper music, but I'm sure all the satellite talk is probably a mono feed.

My question is why 95.3 Party isn't on HD2? ???

In the early '90s, there was a lot of pressure on WMMO from the record industry to play stuff that would never be a hit. The record companies envisioned AAA as a format for stations with no ratings potential that could be bought cheaply with concert tickets and artist appearances, a dumping ground for the label's B-list. The format's leading lights were the non-comms! We were sneered at because we didn't DROP songs WE broke after they became hits in more conservative formats.

I don't know how valid the original premise for WMMO is today, and Cox has certainly painted the place beige in a lot of ways, but the whole point of WMMO was to recall the vibe of early progressive FMs, including not talking over songs, and to do without as much of the hype as possible. "Soft Rock & Roll" was shown in research to nail the exact feel the station was looking to convey, as opposed to "Soft Rock" which evoked female-oriented soft AC to respondents, and "Rock & Roll," which was perceived as a harder-edged sound.

The station pulls demographics that suggest it's appeal now includes people who weren't alive for the era of progressive FM radio, so something's working.

Just stop trying to round off the edges, and be happy Orlando has a somewhat quirky station that doesn't fit cleanly into a homogenized formatic box. Few cities do anymore, and its a real cultural loss.

WMMO plays the right currents. I think playing newer material by classic artists would be great though.

WMMO isn't playing KT Tunstall, Adele, Coldplay (Well they play do Clocks and Viva La Vida) Dave Mathews Band, Christina Perri or Sara Barelles. Music that would mold well with a Softer Classic Rock format.

A lot of music that WMMO can play but will not play due to strict music testing.

Other than that WMMO is still better than the radio stations Cox has elsewhere.

"Strict music testing".

Love it...............same 200 songs pounded day after day. Nice.
