WMMR reunion

Didn't see this mentioned in the other thread, so I thought it deserved one of its own.

For those who grew up in the area, and were around for the inception of the Marconi Experement on WMMR 40 yrs. ago, this weekend will bring back alot of the former jocks who have been there during the past 40 yrs., some of which are still on the air in Philadelphia. I personally love these walk down memory lane weekends. In the past we've seen a Hot Hit's reunion, as well as a reunion of both WIBG and WFIL jocks on WOGL from time to time. It's nice to see WMMR remembering their heritage and the people who made it a great station. Too bad they are limiting it to just former "MMR jockes, I would also have liked to hear some of the former jocks that made up the history of both WIOQ, from their AOR heyday, as well as jocks from the history of WYSP. The fun starts this Friday, and runs through Sunday.

I can't wait for this: a radio geek's dream! I will be airchecking accordingly.

It helps that several of the biggest MMR alumni are currently working at sister station WMGK.

From someone who grew up listening to MMR (ysp and WIOQ) mid 70's, what an incredible day of radio yesterday listening from afar.(gotta love the internet) Thanks MMR! Man was radio connecting with the listener back then. Some incredible voices! Have it on my hard drive to enjoy the memories many more times.

Nock

I, on the other hand, was very disappointed. It's painfuloly obvious that all of the segments were pre-recorded. I can understand this in the case of out of towners, such as Mark Goodman, Earle Bailey and Anita Gevinson. But, the rest of the former hosts are still in this area, and some of them work for sister station WMGK. And couldn't the out of towners done their segments by a phoner or ISDN line? Even satellite would have been an alternative. I guess I was expecting it to sound too much like other reunions where the former hosts sat around talking about the old days. There was no spontaneity whatsoever. I was also hoping to hear more music of the era's that the jocks represented. The era's I grew up in. I have to be honest, I don't listen to too much of today's rock music. They have the whole rest of the week to play the currents. Why not turn the whole weekend event into a time machine? I guess Greater Media cares about the 40th anniversary of this institution, but just not that much!

I'm glad someone else noticed the voicetracking. I too was disappointed that they didn't hold the weekend as other stations have handled reunion weekends (WOGL ten years ago). And playing so much of the usual playlist didn't help.

Still, anthing is better than nothing, and it was good to hear these jocks again in some form. I'll also glad to hear that many of these jocks will be in town for the MMR-beque.

As I stated above, I hoped to aircheck much of the weekend, but Mother's Day festivities kept me from doing so. The only show I airchecked was DeBella's, and I haven't checked the quality yet. I recorded it on my mp3 player in wav format.

I think the only live host was Bubba John.. ???

Out of all the hosts I tuned in to Martarano was the most entertaining...

speaking of the MMR-BQ, i NEED to get tickets by saturday!

i can't miss STP, Everclear, Ashes Divide, Staind, The Hooters, Airborne, Jealousy Curve, and Silvertide.

none of these bands are bad, in fact most of them rock!
