wmms 100.7 playlist

hello cleveland,
i used to live in clebveland ohio in the late 70's and 1980's before moving to tennessee. since 99x started on may 23, 2012, i have heard a playlist or song list change on wmms 100.7 fm. am i right or am i hearing things and not knowing what i am talking about. i wont back down by tom petty, have a drink on me by ac/dc, been a long time since rock n rolled by led zepplin, patience by guns n roses, but i also heard tonight by seether, by the way red hot chili peppers, a black sabbath song but not sure what the name was and a band called steel pamther which is a newer rock band. is this a playlist change? i know i was wmms 100.7 fm. i was just in shock to hear wmms the way i heard in the late 1980's. wow!! i think i can listen to wmms again if they keep this up. east tennessee radio is bad!! very very bad!! i listen to cleveland akron caton radio every day on my computer for 2 or 3 hours. i guess i do this cause i miss it and that is where i grew up as a teen. spoiled on good radio stations and a top 40 pop/rock child of the 1980's. wgcl G 98, i miss you so much. please let me know what you all think about what is going on with wmms. i hope that if this is a playlist change for wmms that their radio ratings will go up. sorry i am not sure what they are now. please let me know about this and thanks ahead of time. jdc42 in the knoxville tennessee radio listening area.

WMMS often goes back and forth between current and older rock music. They stick to the core artists with guitar driven songs that fits with their approach of attracting male listeners. It is also part of their "mancave" look along with football and talk shows.

The music to some is often weird. One minute, they're playing Staind. The next, Bon Jovi. That can turn off those who want either Classic or Alternative, though if there are those who likes both types of rock (including jdc42), than WMMS is for them.

cleveland fan,
it was just to me that the playlist had changed since 99x went on the air. wmms now only plays 2 or 3 currents an hour and the rest is older rock and older alternative songs. there were more currents being played per hour before 99x came on the air. i wish there was a way to look at what they played in the past 24 hours. that would help us know. by the way, i like the all 80's weekend alot on whof 101.7 fm in canton ohio. they are better known as my 101.7.

My 101.7 is a good station. They've been an AC for a while since it went on in early 2007 I believe. They came on when Mix 94.1 adjusted their AC format from Soft to Hot.

Back to WMMS, that is strange with their change, but not surprising. With 99X around, they're pumping in more classic rock. It's a shame because 99.1 is not very strong in the area, and younger listeners want a better quality station playing newer rock.

WMMS has never been consistent with their rock format. They've always gone back and forth for years, and now it's changing again.

You can see what other stations played, going back quite a while here:

http://www.yes.com/#YES_Lobby

Just put the call letters in where it says "search for channels". Hit GO, and the call letters will appear below the search window. Click on the call letters, and you will get a frame in the middle with different options including Song Log, pick day and hour.

Edit: I see when I try WMMS it directs you toward a Rewind page, which seems to do not much at this point. But WNCX has a link to Rewind too but lists the song log on the Yes page.

You can never get a great grasp of the rock music WMMS plays. One day, it's mostly classic rock with some alternative. The next, it's mostly alternative with some classic rock. If it's working for them, then it won't change unless 99X really takes off.

Ever since WMMS went into their mancave mode, their music philosophy is basically "If it rocks, we play it", and not necccesarily worrying about what kind of rock music they play.

The bigger question about 100.7 isn't the kind of music they play, but how much will they play as time goes on, and they go deeper and deeper into mancave mode with talk and sports. Gotta think these Friday night Indians simulcasts are a dry run for something down the road.
