WMMS Maxwell secret

This is a clip of the Maxwell Show on WMMS here in Cleveland. In it Maxwell (Benjamin Bornstein) talks about an appearance on the Kirk and Mark show and how he said something he does not wish to disclose now. I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on the topic. The relevant part of the audio starts at 10:37. NOTE: You will have to copy and paste the link for it to work in the browser.

I remember this. I doubt there's any way in hell that anyone will find out in Cleveland on his show. You might be better off asking Kirk and Mark (who are on a non-compete from CBS Radio following a station format flip from hot talk to sports months ago... seems to be a common occurrence over there.)

Sometimes stuff is best left unsaid. Maxwell has more than aired his many demons following his rehab stint. If he doesn't want to say what this is for fear of his career and livelihood, then it shouldn't be discussed. But it appears that he has dealt with and tried to reconcile it privately for many years.

Is this the same Maxwell who started out in Ft. Wayne 20-some years ago?

I wouldn't know. But he is a native of the Cincinnati area, and he worked at both WOXY-FM and WEBN down there a long time ago.

I feel like I've stumbled in to some secret meeting. What the heck are you guys talking about?

Personally, I don't care for the show.

With that said, Maxwell's ratings say that the target demos love him. I'm in the target...25-54 Men...but it ain't my thing. I prefer Slats when he was on 'MMS.

I don't really think the target demo loves him. They're just grandfathered in via Rover's ratings. I actually believe he's trying to target a different audience as of late. Maybe preparing for the big move? We'll see in a couple months.

And what target would that be? Expand on those thoughts here if you will...

IMO, it's bluster to get himself the best deal he can. Most of Max's unhappiness has revolved around the fact that he signed a rather lopsided deal under his own volition many years ago. Compare that to the shrewdness of Rover's deal making when he jumped ship to WMMS, and it's laughable. I can't blame Max.

No way he could land anywhere else in town. No other station group can afford him, nor offer a format that would fit the show. 'MMS is the best place he can be at right now.

That I do agree with. Slats was probably the most underrated talent in Cleveland radio this past decade.

Regulars know I don't get into ratings all that much, either here or on the MBoF(tm)...

But I do seem to recall that Maxwell was still doing well, ratings-wise, before Rover Hopped Over from 92.3.

The secret? I don't know, or care. Maybe he's dating Duji. Oh, wait, wrong WMMS drive-time host!

I have tried to listen to Maxwell, but his show content can't catch my interest. I'm sure he gets the talk show fans that Triv cannot and vice versa. But I will paraphrase what I've posted on another board(and have personally told Tim Daugherty) I would rather hear Tim Daugherty voicetracked(on WAKR) than either one of those live.

Slats and Carmen Angelo had some of the funniest segments I have ever heard.

Matt Anthony and myself used to produce Slats' bits. Tim is a great talent. Currently a golf pro in Orlando, and does part-time on mainstream rock WJRR.
