WMMS Record Library Contest

WMMS was/is giving away their entire record library, estimated by some at over 7,000 records, mostly LPs. Did they ever announce a winner on-air or otherwise?

and being from Parama he said "I won their library but I have no idea how to read or open these darn round books!"

Those Records were probably like NEW! being WMMS probably didn't play most of them.

Radio stations were notorious for beating up their records... writing all over them so they wouldn't be stolen so easily, and wearing them out. However, with that many records, many may be in good shape, and there is a good chance that some of the rarest, possibly most valuable ones, are in the best shape as rarity is often a function of not being a big hit.

Does the Parma winner have the smarts to separate the rare, out-of-print stuff from the Journey albums and sell it on E-Bay?

Perhaps the staff culled the library years ago at the storage facility that was flooded. And if it were me... I'd of gone through the stuff one more time before giving it all away.

I wouldn't at all be surprised to find that many really "cool" things were taken by staff over the years. However, there are two levels of "cool" here.

1. The undeniably rare and valuable... such as the first pressing of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Street Survivors" album which has the group engulfed in flames on the cover. After the plane crash that killed group members, that cover was withdrawn and the LP came out with a different cover.

2. The hard-to-find ones that will excite, if they get into the proper hands. For example, there was this all-female rock group from the mid 1970s called Mother Trucker. They were from England and signed to Ember Records there. Their record(s) was/were released in the U.S. on Paramount/Ember Records. I've got a promotional copy "45" by them with a picture sleeve. It's really good. I've never seen an album by them. That would be an exciting find for me if, in that massive collection, there was a Mother Trucker album! Something like that may have a good chance of being there, and still in good shape because since it wasn't a "hit", it wouldn't get used that often, if at all.

If they really wanted to give something good away, how about a personal password & unlimited access to the CCADS Launcher (where all their music comes from & every other CC station?) ::)

Then give them an external hard drive loaded with every AOR & Active Rock rock song ever fed into CCADS. That would be a nice giveaway.
Or invite the wimmer to the station to select all the songs they want from CCADS. Plus throw in a couple retro Buzzard t-shirts or bumper stickers.
