WMMX Ratings Freefall...Could Fly 92.9 be the reason?

 Whoa...WMMX/Mix 107.7 had an AWFUL Summer book, perhaps the worst book in recent memory for them...a 4.7?!? That's a 3-point drop for 'MMX from the Spring book. It makes me wonder how much Fly 92.9 is hurting them. ??? I've been following the ratings since 2000, and besides a 5 here or there I NEVER have seen 'MMX do this poorly. Big 106.5 could've taken some of their audience as well. Putting on Big might've hurt 'MMX when i'm willing to bet they put on Big to protect 'MMX from the onslaught of Fly, and it looks to have possibly backfired.

Interesting book to say the least. 106.5 does the best it has in years, and I don't know that that's all at Mix's expense. Oldies/Classic Hits has been missing for awhile so I'm sure there was a lot of sampling. But diary placement can be a factor as well. 106.5 could well be kicking butt in the north..too bad CC won't bother chasing that north of I-70 revenue. I don't know what to say about Mix...you'd have to see how they did in demographics and how well Fly actually did. Maybe it's time for some major tweaks at the far end of the dial.

I am a huge fan of 80s music but maybe it's time for 'MMX to drop them altogether and focus 90s forward. The business-and life in general-evolves and changes all the time, hence the reason to drop the 80s. With Gen X Radio in Columbus doing well, it proves that the audience is hungry for 90s music.

I haven't been in Ohio this summer but has Mix cut down on their promotional stance? I can remember Summerfest being at the beginning of the summer, then around the 4th of July, now it's been bumped to the end of August. Not saying that's the reason but it may not help a summer book

Note - Mainline station numbers are listed for the Louisville Summer ratings period on Radio-Info. Is Mainline becoming a subscriber? Will Dayton be far behind?

gr8, you're exactly right...originally, Summerfest was the last week in May/first week of June, then around the 4th and now at the end of the Summer. The acts this year were Blondie and Cheap Trick...keep in mind that several years back, when Mix was co-promoting free concerts at Courthouse Square, Cheap Trick was one of the FREE acts they had. Anyhow, both acts are way past their primes. I thought when they announced the SF line-up they would be in trouble. I'm not sure if they sold it out or not, but once SF was over, usually they tell how much fun they had, but this year, once it was over, besides some pics on the website, no further mention was made about it. They need to at least bring in acts from the 90s...or get some bigger 80s artists like Bon Jovi or Bryan Adams that still have followings, or hell, bring in the Goo Goo Dolls, who have a HUGE Hot AC following...they're one of the most successful acts in the history of the format.
They've been promoting the "Concert For A Cure", which probably sold more tickets than SF, because it actually features acts from this century like Sara Barielles and Crystal Bowersox from American Idol fame. ;D
