WMOD Bolivar

For anyone that hasn't heard, the classic Country station in Bolivar, TN (WMOD) burned down last night. Along with a large chunk of the Court Square. A fire started in the attic of Joe's and spread over that section of Court Square.

I'd like to send my thoughts and prayers out to the folks at WMOD. I hope you have everything back together soon.

Man! That terrible! I hope everyone is ok! It's also bad to lose those old histroric buildings. Joe's was once the original Luez Theatre, not to mention our favorite place to send our Bed & Breakfast guests for supper. The old bank building that housed WMOD was also historic. I hope all our friends are ok!

I just read about the fire.. I hope area stations will offer to help to get WMOD back on the air especially with the threat of severe weather looming....

A station I worked at for many years was destroyed by fire a few years before I started there.

For a few weeks they ran the station as a live remote from a music store until a new studio was set up.

I will definately keep them in my prayers also

Looking at the photo, I'm reminded of how it must have looked when General Sturgis burned the business district down in 1863. Well, without the modern fire trucks and power lines of course! My mom (who lives just two blocks from there) tells me that the folks that own Joe's will rebuild. I'm glad to hear it! The bank building that housed WMOD looked to be intact; however the interior I'm sure is badly damaged. I hope they rebuild as well. Here's a link to the photo posted on the Jackson Sun's website...

WOJG the gospel station out of Bolivar that seems to, at times dominate the Jackson Market, Covered the Bolivar Tigers championship game last night to give WMOD a hand.

Last I heard they are still working on things, All of us (all two) over at the Dove in Selmer have offered our service in anyway possible... we're just waiting to hear what they need.

They are saying they'll be back up in a couple of days.

Very sad, going over there tomorrow to see if I can help in any way.

Isn't the stuido and tx site seperate for WMOD? If so, they can get back on with a PC at the tx site.

Years ago that was the case. The tower and xmitter are east of Bolivar. They may be holding for delivery of new computer.

What they could do, and I did this when I was CE of WYXE-AM, where the studio was split from the transmitter site, I took an ipod filled with hispanic pop tunes and feed the headphone output straight to the audio processor, before it got to the transmitter. This keep the station on while we were moving the studios. Took us 4 days to get it done. Since WYXE is a daytimer, we had a sine systems remote contol out there, so it took care of turning on and off the tx.

If it was me, I would take an ipod or a laptop to the WMOD tx site and feed the audio processor with tunes and ids. At least the station would be on. You can so simple automation with Windows Media Player 10. We did it when WVCP (Vol State College) lost it's studios on campus on April 7th, 2006.

I'm not sure what they are planning, I'll be honest I didn't even think to tune over there this weekend. But I know they have a phone line to their transmitter, so they could get back on the air over the phone as well. But the problem is, I don't know how big their music library is. They do run the REAL COUNTRY Sat. feed. so they may not have a very large ammount of stuff to pull from.

I honestly don't know. Just thinking out loud.
