Got word today that this will be the last day of broadcasting at WMPH for the near future. Staff has been let go. I'm told the station will play it's final songs just before midnight tonight. More on this as the details surface but I believe it has to be a budgetary move by the school.

Another dance station signs off tonight.

This time, it's WMPH (Super 91.7) Wilmington, DE. Say it aint so. I read Promo Only's anouncement on Facebook regarding this matter.

I just posted the same message. This cant be happening to dance outlets. First Energy SF, then Pulse, then iPartyRadio, now Super? What's next, Mix2?

I'm pretty sure CBS is smart enough to keep the format... they have other dance-formatted HD2's on SF (Pulse Radio) and Chicago (B96 Dance).

It's just a bad financial time all around these past few years, and not just terrestrial.

Let's see...we lost Energy 92.7/101.1 (Phoenix), Energy 92.7 (San Francisco), Pulse 87 (New York City), Party FM (on 87.7 in New York City 3 months after the loss of Pulse), iPartyRadio (which was only a WEEK ago) and now this. :(

And the sad part is, while it was a decision by the Wilmington Board of Ed., it's just part of what ALL schools are doing to save money and cut funding on all sorts of art programs. Nevertheless, it's still a heartbreaking loss. :(

Special thanks to Kris Henderson, Clint Dantinne and the staff for doing a fantastic job. The hard work is certainly appreciated :).

I live about 5 minutes from the WMPH studios. It's sad they are going off the air. This economy sucks for them to have to cut the budget. Hopefully, they will bring the station or a station with the same format back in the near future.

I've been a fan of the station for the past several years. I've heard about the financial problems of the school district in the past couple of years, so the station closing wasn't a complete surprise to me. Still it's very depressing with all these stations closing up in the past year, considering that I think that dance music gives such an uplift that needs to get its message across. It seems that in the past year with every one step forward for dance music (such as Lady Gaga's US top 40 success), there seems to be twenty steps back with WMPH, iPartyRadio, etc. closing up. :'(

Hats off the Kris, Clint, and the staff as well for their efforts. May a new dance station takes its place and help lead the country out of its funk with some uplifting dance tunes.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :'( Not one of my beloved school stations gone.. this is horrible as in my opinion this was one of the best of the terrestrial outlets we had....

It's sad that any high school radio station would go off the air. Not only is it a loss to the listeners, but it's a loss for non-commercial radio, high school radio, the future of radio personalities, and a major loss for the school as a program that uses all four core areas (english/speech/journalism, social studies, science/technology, and mathematics) to teach.

We recently were saved by our school board and now are full force on selling underwriting. We are, luckily, in the new Indy PPM market going online this year and hopefully will have audience numbers that will prove how many listeners we have to project the image of the school district and our students. Many school administrators around the country think radio is a "fun" class that is "just a kid with music and a microphone." That's why we work hard to provide a learning enviroment that is similar to a true commercial radio station.

I hope the staff at Super can find a way to get back on the air (they do have tons of national support!). I just cannot imagine a school district closing down a station that is a proven leader. Is there a New Jersey Student Broadcasters Association or anything that can provide financial, legal or at least just assistance?

Super 91.7 was slated to adopt Clint's Dance Radio Network syndicated format, and eliminate his position at the school due to budget cuts. Because Clint spoke out about that, the district decided to stop its radio program. By the way, WMPH is in Delaware, not NJ, but it can be heard along 12 miles of the NJ Turnpike.

So have they filed with the FCC for authorization to go silent?

As an educational license they do not need to do this. A lot of educational stations go silent during summer break.

Also there is no educational broadcasting organization in New Jersey.

EnergyAZ has been off the air since November 2008, but the calls for The Beat are still KNRJ on 101.1 (but branded as 92.7/99.3 The Beat). I guess I'm secretly dreaming that one day Energy will end up back on the airwaves.
